What follows is a gallery of sorts; a place not unlike my own bookshelf, full of many fun pictures and characters and stories I love. Inside you'll find Winnie the Pooh and Anne of Green Gables and Laura from Little House on the Prairie; Peter Rabbit and Max and the Wild Things and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are here, too. I've also included some newer stories, ones I feel will become classics in their own right. Click on The Library at the left to read about these stories and their authors.

I plan to keep adding pages, so if there is a particular book you'd like to see, e-mail me at kerridv@qwest.net or Sign My Guestbook and tell me all about it.

I hope you enjoy this literary journey.

What's ? I get a lot of mail asking me to recall the title of a book or where to find a book. I do what I can to help but often I have the same troubles. Here are a few resources I use when searching for a book:
  • First I check the local library if I just want to read a book or check facts. Libraries, besides being extremely cool places, don't rotate stock and will most likely have the book you are looking for.

Next, if you want to buy a particular book:

  • Peruse any used bookstores in your area. I'd say 90 percent of my collection I've found in used bookstores because people's children grow up and they get rid of the books. Not only are you supporting your local used bookstore, but you needn't pay full price for a children's book (unless you are intending it for a gift).

  • Alibris: By far one of the better book sites on the Internet, this book site has insightful articles, used and rare books for sale, and author interviews. You can enter many of the forums here to ask about your childhood books, find a book, buy a book, or just chat with other booklovers.

  • EBAY: The largest auction site on the Internet has revolutionized children's book buying in my opinion, because often you can find what you're looking for very cheaply. If you have books you want to sell (why?) you can also post them here.

  • Half Price Books: One of my favorite stores, this is a treasure trove of used and new books at roughly half-price their cover prices. Their children's selection is extraordinary, and if you don't have one near you, check out their website.

  • Half.com: Another great site, the name says it all. Look here for more books at roughly half the cost.

  • Powell's Books: If you can't find your book in the above places, then see if you can buy it new at this Portland-based bookstore. Check out their funny email newsletter while you're there, and enter one of their many contests. They have a great selection of books and you are still supporting an independent bookseller.

  • Barnes&Noble, Amazon.com: When all else fails you can try these two mammoth booksellers, but don't expect to find anything old, classic, or cheap. However, they do carry nice editions of annotated classics, sets, and companion books.
If you have any other good hints on how to find a book, I'd love to hear them. Drop me a line and I'll share with others. Happy book hunting!

Coming Soon:The Book of Three; A Cricket in Times Square; The Great Gilly Hopkins

Check out the new timeline! It has all the events of the authors and stories listed along side some historic dates. Now you can compare who lived when and what was going on during their times.
