My Grannie loves her apron,
There are no two ways about it,
Where ever she goes, what ever she does,
She will not be caught without it.
Her apron has huge pockets,
And she keeps them overflowing,
With corks and buttons - bits of string,
One has no way of knowing . . .
Just what it is that jingles,
Or makes her pockets swell,
It could be an odd-shaped pebble,
Or a tiny tinkle bell.
Sometimes she'll fetch a bouncy ball
For a young gentleman's prize,
Or a shiny penny can put a gleam
In a little lady's eyes.
If I live a life deserving,
And I'm faithful all the way,
If someday I make the crossing,
To the "Land of Endless Day,"
When I'm standing there at Heaven's door,
And an Angel shall unlock it,
Grannie will fetch me the key to my mansion,
From her golden apron pocket.
