Hello from Springville! I am so happy to have found you. Your mom was my grandmother Braswell, the only one I ever knew because my dad's mom was killed in a car accident when he was small. I tried to send an email but it was returned to me insufficien

I enjoyed looking at your Lanier line, and was struck by the thought how closly related many of us are without knowing. I too lived in Fla, in the mid 1960's as a child when my father was stationed at Sanford. I noticed in the Lanier line the Lanier des
endant lived there the same time. It was a very small town in the sixties, before Disney came in. We might have even lived in the same neighborhood for all we know! Thanks, Tim

I am interested in the origins of Mary Jane Armstrong born about
1849/50 in Calcutta, India. Rumour has it that her father was a
Colonel Armstrong in the army (Indian or British I wouldn't know).
Mary married a James Irons at Palmers Island, Clarence Ri er, New
South Wales, Australia on 2 January 1870. They had 8 children and a
son, John, went to New Zealand as a young man to live (my
grandfather). As a lot of americans also have british ancestors I
hope someone has some information.

Comments:
Nice site, always great to see a 'gathering place' for Armstrong
researchers. My Armstrong search starts with JOHN ARMSTRONG,
reportedly from Canada, either he or his father/gr-father were from
Northern Ireland (no proof, only folklore). The family was ETHODIST
and were all in the building trades although many were also farmers.
JOHN ARMSTRONG, b. 1783, d. 1879, initially is found in KNOX, ALBANY,
NY where he is married to TAHPENES WILLIAMS, b. 1788, d. 1859. Right
away we start with a mystery as some records show he also married
ESTHER WILLIAMS. Depending on who did the research, Tahpenes had all
of the children or Esther had some of the children. I've been to the
cemetery and seen Tahpenes' grave which merely says 'Tahpenes'. It is
in the ARMSTRON family plot over which is a majestic round pillar of
brown granite which towers over the cemetery located in Knox, Albany,
NY. NO grave for Esther. My theory is that Esther and Tahpenes are
one and the same. Originally, I found records that showed TUH ENES
which I thought could have been 'Two Pennies' perhaps an Indian name?
Then she may have been converted to Christianity and received Esther
as a Christian name. This would explain the confusion over the
children and explain why she is among the miss ng in the cemetery!
Comments? Many of the Armstrongs are still in Albany and Schoharie Co
to date, however, early on some groups migrated to western NYS to
Orleans Co, where many are buried. Later some of them moved to IA,
MI, OH, and parts west. While I would like to find out where my
original JOHN ARMSTRONG came from, I'd very much like to touch base
with other Armstrong descendants. The website is new, is my son's (I
made it for him for a Christmas surprise!) but the Yankee page is the
beginning of my ARMSTRONG line. It needs wo k - my 2000 resolution!
Happy searching everyone and a fruitful New Year. Cynthia Armstrong Corbett

I believe the first Armstrong in my family line to settle in the
United States was John Prescott Armstrong. He settled in Connecticut
and was a shipwright originally from Scotland. The original family
name was Faebairn. They migrated from Norway and se tled off the
Orkney Islands before moving to Scotland. Welda Faebairn is one of
those ancestors and the first ancestor to use the name
"Armstrong" was Dag Faerbairn who was a maker of knives and
swords and family lore has it that he was a king's armourbe rer. He
was knighted and given the name of "Strongarm" after
hoisting the fallen king back onto his horse during battle. The name
Faerbairn was also changed to the spelling of Fairbairn at some
point. I would appreciate any legitimate information that ou may
have. Thanks!!

I have a picture of Clara (Clarissa) Lanier on my website. She
married William D. Taylor in Hardin County, IL. around 1880. Clara's
father is noted in a family book as being "Ben Lanier".

Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words about my site. You've
obviously been at it for a while longer than we have. Keep up the
great work. I'll consider the Geneological Society later, since right
now my plate is very full already.
