I was not brought up in a religious family. We never went to church. I believed in God, but really knew nothing of him. When my son Alec died in 1994, I had a very hard time with my beliefs. I blamed God and felt guilty for that. Then I realized, that he understood, he knew my pain. Although I don't believe I have yet accepted Alec's death, I have dealt with it, year by year, month by month, day by day, hour by hour and sometimes minute by minute. I have to believe that for whatever reason, where I am in my life now is where I need to be. I have to put things in Gods hands and trust. Sometimes it is hard to have faith in something that you can't see, you can't touch, but then you realize, he touches YOU every day!

Today, help me God, to let go of my resistance to change. Help me to be open to the process. Help me believe that the place I will be dropped off will be better than the place I was picked up. Help me to surrender, trust and accept… even if I don't understand.

A true friend is one who understands where you have been, accepts what you have become and loves you unconditionally as you are. He does not wish you "luck" as you step out into the unknown...he walks into the void by your side. He will not offer distractions nor easy advice in your time of need...instead he will pray for wisdom. Born of compassion and a willingness to take your pain upon himself.
Such a friend will always speak of you when you are not present, as if you were, and though he many not always share your sunny days, he will always be there to help you through the stormy ones. He is not skeptical of your blooming, nor jealous of your shining apart from him, for he seeks not to steal your joy, but to multiply it.
