I am a charter member of First Families of Benton County, TN.
I am past President of The Benton County Genealogical Society, January 2000 - January 2002. I have helped publish and printed a book on "The First Families of Benton County". In the book, 501 people proved their ancestry in Benton County back to 1835 when Benton County, Tennessee broke away from Humphreys County, Tennessee to become the county named after David Benton, an early settler in the Harmons Creek area. David Benton is also a relative of mine.
I have proven and documented seven of my ancestors that were here in Benton County, Tennessee when Benton County broke from Humphreys County and became a county in 1836. They are Joseph Melton and wife Patience Hargrove, Cooper Melton and wife Phoebe Manning, Etheldred Melton, Wyatt Arnold and Jackson Farmer. All of my ancestors remained in Benton County and raised families. The Meltons and Arnolds of today are descendents of Joseph and Cooper Melton and Wyatt Arnold.
CAUTHEN and GRAHAM of Alabama and Georgia, my paternal line. MELTON, FARMER, SNYDER and
COOLEY of Tennessee, my maternal line.
