John Oakes

       John OAKES is the first of our family that we know of. He was born about 1776 Goshen, Chester County, PA and died 13 June 1831 in Richland County, OH. He married 24 August 1804 in Greene or Bedford County, PA to Susannah SAMS born 25 March 1786 Orange County, NY she died 23 August 1870 Union Twp, Wayne County, IA and is buried in Ryan Cemetery in Union Twp. She was the daughter of Henry SAMS and Abigail. (see SAMS family). The OAKES and SAMS families intermarried several times and has made researching difficult at times. John and Susannah had 7 known children:
