This historical community was founded at the turn of the century as the central supply hub of the "Bullfrog Mining District" and sets near the border of modern day Death Valley National Monument. Once served by three railroads that whistled through to the booming metropolis of Rhyolite, today the Beatty area is served by Hwy 95, Rhyolite is a ghost town and the railroads run 115 miles to the south through Las Vegas. Still, some of old Beatty can still be seen. The Exchange Club that George Greenwood built in 1906 still stands, old railroad beds can be seen on the edge of town, and old mines and mining Ghost Towns dot the area. Today there are only remains of the once booming town of Rhyolite, with ruins of a large operational gold mill, just four (4) miles West of Beatty. There are many activities in and around Beatty, ranging from hiking, off-road vechicle use, to rock hunting, birdwatching, and wildlife photography. The arts abound in Beatty, including the spectacular natural landscape, planned community murals, Modern art Sculptures, and mini-art galleries scattered throughout the town. Beatty is a friendly town that welcomes visitors year-round. Services are available 24 hours a day with modern motels, and RV parks to accommodate travelers for long or short stays. Beatty is located 6 miles from Death Valley, 13 miles from the Nevada/ California border, and 98 miles north of Las Vegas. You will find Beatty nestled in a small valley, surrounded by three peaks; Bare Mountain, Sawtooth Mountain, and the Bullfrog Hills. We hope that you will enjoy our clean fresh air, friendly people, spectacular scenery and our great quality of life. |
