N.E. Guilford 4, Asheboro 0 -
"The AHS girls varsity soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Northeast Guilford Thursday in the Trinity Invitational. Brittany Lorimer and Molly Bunch paced the AHS attack. AHS will battle Southwestern Randolph tonight at 7 at THS." (from The Courier-Tribune, 3-12-99)
Asheboro 2, S.W. Randolph 1 -
"The Asheboro High School varsity soccer team received goals from Anna Fisher and Rebekah Bunch in recording a 2-1 win over Southwestern Randolph in the Trinity Invitational. Fisher scored on a penalty kick and Bunch's goal snapped a tie with about 16 minutes to play. Kate Hedrick and Carrie Delooze had assists on the goal. Catherine Williams had an outstanding game in goal for the Comets, who are now 1-2. Fisher and Mary Williams were named to the all-tournament team." (from The Courier-Tribune, 3-16-99)
Asheboro 1, S.W. Randolph 1-
"Carrie Delooze scored with under 10 minutes to play to lift Asheboro's varsity soccer team into a 1-1 tie with Southwestern Randolph Wednesday. Melissa Schoolcraft had an assist on the game-tying goal. Catherine Williams and Lacey Gordon had strong games for AHS, 1-2-1. Candace Mosby had a goal for the Cougars." (from the Courier-Tribune, 3-18-99)

Asheboro 0, S. W. Randolph 0 -
"Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph dueled to a scoreless varsity soccer draw recently. Katie Smith was in goal for SWR preserving the shutout while the Comets' Lauren Lee replaced injured goalie Catherine Williams, who was lifted after suffering a shoulder injury, for the final 10 minutes." (from the Courier-Tribune, 3-30-99)
Pinecrest 8, Asheboro 0 -
Asheboro 4, Randleman 0 -
"The Asheboro girls soccer team lost to undefeated Pinecrest 8-0. The Blue Comets then responded with a 4-0 win over Randleman. Carrie Delooze scored all four goals, while Anna Fisher, Molly Bunch and Anna Halligan recorded assists." (from the Courier-Tribune, 4-1-99)
C. Davidson 3, Asheboro 0 -
I haven't seen anything in the newspaper about this game, but Asheboro got down by the score of 2 to 0 early in the game and then was swamped by a barrage of defenders for the rest of the game. I think Asheboro can beat this team, though, so I hope to see a different outcome when they come to Asheboro on April 27.
S.E. Guilford 5, Asheboro 0 -
I haven't seen anything about this game in the newspaper, either, but I am glad this team isn't in our conference. They have some awfully big girls.
Ragsdale 6, Asheboro 0 -
Ragsdale is led by Cindy Mullinix, who has a full scholarship to Clemson waiting for her. They are really good, but their coach said that Asheboro played as hard against them as any team all year. They are ranked fourth in the State.
Asheboro 6, Eastern Randolph 0 -
Catherine Williams scored three goals. Mary Williams, Anna Halligan, and Rebekah Bunch also scored goals. The Comets' record is now 4-6-2.
Asheboro 1, North Davidson 0 -
"The Asheboro girls soccer team edged North Davidson in an important 1-0 TCC victory Tuesday night. Lauren Lee took a pass from Rebekah Bunch and broke through the North Davidson defense to score the breakaway goal. Melissa Schoolcraft also had an assist on the goal. It was a costly win as Bunch was injured and lost for the season with a broken collarbone. AHS' record after the win is 5-6-2 overall and 1-2 in TCC play." (from the Courier-Tribune, 4-21-99)
Trinity 4, Asheboro 1 -
Asheboro held Trinity scoreless in the second half after allowing Trinity a lead of 4 to 0 at the end of the first half. Molly Bunch scored a goal for Asheboro in the second half with an assist from Courtney Potts.
High Point Andrews 4, Asheboro 1 -
"Asheboro High School's varsity soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to High Point Andrews Monday. The Comets slip to 1-4 in the conference and 5-8-2 overall. AHS hosts Central Davidson tonight." (from the Courier-Tribune, 4-27-99)
Central Davidson 4, Asheboro 1 -
Ragsdale 6, Asheboro 0 -
In what was probably the wettest and most dangerous game of the season, Asheboro travelled to Ragsdale and proceeded to play one half in a torrential rain. Luckily, no one was injured. Like the team and coaches, the mass of spectators from Asheboro returned soaking wet from the cold, windy, rainy night.
High Point Andrews 2, Asheboro 1 -
High Point Andrews came to Asheboro and defeated the Comets in a hard-fought overtime game. Carrie DeLooze scored the lone goal for Asheboro, and Asheboro had several shots on goal that nearly made their mark.
North Davidson 1, Asheboro 0 -
Asheboro travelled to North Davidson on Thursday, May 6 and lost a close game. North Davidson scored in the first half, and Asheboro failed to score after many attempts. Asheboro will close out its season on Tuesday, May 11at Lee J. Stone Stadium against Trinity. It will be the last game for the Seniors: Carrie DeLooze, Kate Hedrick, Brittany Lorimer, Samantha Walker, Lauren Slocum, and Courtney Potts.
Trinity 6, Asheboro 0 - "The 1999 varsity team finished its season on May 11. It was the last home game, which is traditionally designated as "Senior Night". It has been a building process for next year's performance. As senior Courtney Potts said, "Even though we didn't have a winning season, we still had a lot of fun. This was the first time I've ever played soccer, but Coach Ferguson and the other girls helped me a lot and really made me feel like part of the team." On May 4th the Comets played High Point Andrews. The girls went in overtime and played an outstanding game. Captain Carrie Delooze commented, "Overall I think this year's soccer season was a great learning experience for everyone on the team, including the coaches. We worked really hard on building the team for next year's season which will hopefully lead them to more victories. I believe that this season will be the most memorable one ever, and I'll never forget how we all bonded to be a team despite our own personal differences. Good luck for the next players and season." We hope to see all the varsity players back next year for a strong season." (from The Ash-Hi Chat, 5-14-99, by Melissa Schoolcraft)

JV Game Results

S.W. Randolph 1, Asheboro 0 -
"The Asheboro High School jayvee soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to SWR Wednesday. Jamie Hendrickson and Lisa Miller had strong games for the Comets in their season opener." (from the Courier-Tribune, 3-18-99)
S.W. Randolph ?, Asheboro 0 -
Pinecrest 7, Asheboro 0 -
S.E. Guilford 4, Asheboro 0 -

"JV Soccer ended their season on May 5 against SW Guilford. The 1999 team consisted of many young players. This year was a building year, and they hope to do very well next year. The girls finished with an overall record of 5-3. Coach Wheeler commented that this year he had hoped to win some more games, but the most important thing to him was to have fun, and the girls definitely did. Captains Megan Anderson and Hannah Thompson headed the team's roster in leadership. Hannah Thompson commented, "This season was a great experience, and the team worked very hard and hopefully will improve as a whole for the next season." Coach Wheeler plans to continue coaching next year. He hopes to also have a great season next year. Thanks to all the players who came out for the team!"
