Welcome to the homepage for the one and only
Randolph Jazz Band!
Hey, Band Members! Our next rehearsal is Sunday, September 12, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at the upstairs den of Styx. We'll see you there!

The Randolph Jazz Band is a nonprofit group that gets together to practice and to perform jazz and swing music in and around Asheboro and Randolph County, North Carolina. It was started in the Fall of 1989 when Michael Stephenson was working as the Visiting Artist at Randolph Community College. In February of 1990, the members of the band included:

Saxophones

Michael Stephenson, Craig Forkner, George Case, Kendall Kye, Dave Howard, Gary Lewis, and Peter Harrell

Trombones

Frankie Perkins, Sammy Blackburn, Bob Barham and Kelly Blackburn

Trumpets

Ricky Cox, Wes Moser, Terry Perkins, and Ed Bunch

Rhythm

Cal McIntosh, piano; Jim Davis, guitar; Bill Mollman, bass; and Terry Morris, drums

Director

Michael Stephenson

Over the years, the personnel comprising the Randolph Jazz Band has changed, but the spirit of the band has not. We probably play a whole lot better than we did in 1990 simply because most of us have practiced a lot and played our instruments a lot more since 1990 than we did before the band was formed in the Fall of 1989. At the present time, the members of the Randolph Jazz Band include:

Saxophones

Dave Howard, Gary Lewis, Rex Lilly, Chris Hankins, and Jason Bray

Trombones

Frankie Perkins, Bob Barham, Tyler Bystrzycki, and Dan Ragsdale

Trumpets

Ricky Cox, Ed Bunch, Terry Lawrence, and Richard Cox

Rhythm

Pat Chamberlin, piano; Tom Cunningham, guitar; Bill Mollman, bass; and Tom Mullinax, drums
