About Rycroft Kennels

Dianne and Rainy, March 2007
I started in Labrador Retrievers in 1982 with the acquisition of my first dog, a wonderful yellow male named Pal. He was going to be taken to the animal shelter in the morning because his breeder could not sell his last remaining puppies. My family and I went and rescued those poor pups late at night, a yellow male and a yellow female. We placed the female and decided to keep the male, and the rest, as they say, is history. Pal had a wonderful temperment and was very sound. I trained him in 4-H class and we went on the win many awards. Pal taught me alot about Labradors and I made many wonderful contacts through him. We lost Pal in 1996, but his legacy is going strong here. Truly is his great-granddaughter and exemplifies to me a true Labrador in type and temperament. My breeding philosophy is to strive to breed the highest quality dogs possible and prove the quality of my breeding stock by showing them in AKC conformation shows in an effort to obtain their Championship. All of my breeding stock is OFA certified, free of hip and elbow dysplasia, in addition to having their eyes cleared of genetic defects.
I got started in Cresteds in 1995, with the aquisition of Buffy, a true hairless. Buffy finished her Championship easily. She has a wonderful temperment, but was placed in a pet home as she was not the of the type and soundness that I wanted in my breeding program. Not satisfied with just one, of course, I acquired others. My favorite Crested is Am/Can CH Kirby. He is the love of my life. His type and temperament is what I have been striving for in a Crested. I find this breed a very delightful companion, and oh so entertaining!!! Unfortunately with the rise in popularity of the hairless variety, there are some "large" kennels who breed for demand, but put down healthy puffs in an effort to keep their numbers down. At Rycroft, I welcome both varieties as one breed and have no partialities toward either.
All pet quality puppies or puppies sold as pets are done so on AKC limited registration (offspring not eligible for registration) and on a spay/neuter contract. My puppies all come with a written health warranty.
My motto:
"Quality not quantity, with emphasis on responsibility"
