Here in the southern USA, it is FLEA and TICK season again!!
As you all know, we did not have much in the way of a winter this year. No long-term freeze, ice or snow. You probably know that this is very important in the control of the nasty little critters mentioned above. Well, we didn't get the weather; so now,
Now, we are all, individually and collectively, going to have to take action to protect our property, homes, ourselves, our children and pets from these nasty, biting, disease carrying creatures.
Personally, I never use poison -- too dangerous. I have children and pets and do not intend to take chances. And, believe me, when you use ANY type of commercial bug killer, you are taking chances!
The one and only thing I have come across that is absolutely Guaranteed to not only kill the ticks and fleas, but will also do-in spiders, ants, roaches, slugs; and a multitude of other little pests; is called:
DIATAMACEOUS EARTH
Diatamaceous Earth is a natural earth product created from pulverized fossilized crustacians. It is a powder which acts like billions of tiny, tiny little razorblades that slash the flesh of these nasty pests so that they dehydrate and die.
This IS NOT A POISON, it is wholly non-toxic; and because it is not a poison, there is no way to build up an immunity, so it can be used as frequently and for as long as needed. You can't build-up immunity to flesh wounds. Well, neither can insects!
You will want to take precautions when spreading it to be sure that your children and pets are not around, and to be sure and protect your eyes and do not inhale the powder. [You could get a nose-bleed and your eyes will feel like you have been in a sandstorm!] You will also probably want to wear a long-sleeved shirt and maybe even wear gloves. Not for concern over toxicity, but remember, this is a dissicant; if it will tear the flesh of the insects, it is also going to make miniscule slashes in your flesh which will leave your skin dried out and maybe even peeling for a couple of days. This is not harmful to you, just aggravating; or at least it was to me -- nobody warned me that I was just a big old insect as far as this stuff was concerned and I didn't protect my skin for several years!
After you have prepared yourself and gotten the kids and the pets out of the yard; you will also want to be sure that when you decide to spread the Diatamaceous Earth, that you do not do it on a windy day, try to do it at a time before or after the bees are gathering pollen [we need our bees to pollenate our gardens and get safely home to make all that good honey!], lay down a nice dusting over the entire property, especially around the foundation of the house and around the porches and doorways.
Spread it over and under your bushes (after dusting on top of your bushes, shake them so that the powder gets down into and on the branches). Carefully try to get some dusted at least 6 ft. up on your trees; I read last year where ticks will hide-out that high up in trees just waiting for some unsuspecting creature to come by beneath them!
You can use this product inside your house as well, though I would not recommend you use it on carpet - it is a dissicant. But you can safely use it on hardwood floors and floor tiles. Use it in the attic and if you have a basement, use it there too. It does kill spiders and roaches.
Encourage all your neighbors to use this product on their entire property too -- so their ticks and fleas don't keep coming to our homes! And remember, there are stray animals running our neighborhoods all the time, and most of them are probably carrying these pests; they don't have somebody who cares for them and sees to it they are not infected!
As this is not a toxin, there is no residual activity to it. You will need to be vigilant and at the first sign of a new infestation, use the product again!
Farmers use Diatamaceous Earth in the food of their livestock; horses, cows, goats, etc. I feed it to my pets also; about 1 Tablespoon per feeding for a medium sized dog, about 1 teaspoon for small dogs or cats. It helps eliminate worms when used in this fashion! And, again, it is non-toxic. It WILL NOT harm your pets when mixed in with their food in the above amounts!
Another way to help protect your pets is to feed them Brewers Yeast powder or tablets. You will find this at your grocery, drug or health food stores. You can also feed them Garlic, either raw or capsules. This makes their blood distasteful to the fleas and ticks and they will prefer to look for another host. This is just an additional precaution, however, ... better to kill the pests so they don't go after you in preference over your pets!
You probably are not going to be able to find Diatamaceous Earth at the grocery or drug stores, but you should be able to find it at any Feed Store. It will probably cost you between 85 cents to $1.15 per pound. At some feedstores, you will only be able to purchase it in 3-5 pound pkgs; at others, you can buy it from bulk and purchase anything from a few ounces to as many pounds as you can carry. This is an extremely fine powder, so a little goes a long way. I have never needed more than 5 pounds over a long bad season.
Now, let me explain something here. I do not sell Diatamaceous Earth, or any other product. I do not get paid to advertise it, nor am I in any way affiliated with anyone who does. This is simply a product I fortunately discovered a number of years ago and have found to be extremely effective as mentioned above. After having nearly died when Others carelessly used commercial bug and weed poisons, I was very grateful to discover that there was something "out there" that not only would work, but would not harm me, my family or pets! Como ya habran observado no tuvimos mucho de invierno este ano. No hubo heladas prolongadas, hielo o nevadas. Probablemente ustedes ya saben que esto es muy importante en el control de estos horribles pequeqos bichos. Como no tuvimos el clima adecuado ahora;
Individual y colectivamente ahora todos tendremos que tomar accion para protejer nuestra propiedad, hogares, y a nosotros mismos , nuestros hijos y nuestras mascotas contra estos horripilantes y agresivos bichos acarreadores de enfermedad. Personalmente, yo nunca uso veneno. Es demasiado peligroso. Tengo hijos y mascotas y no intento arriesgarme. !Crianme, cuando usan CUALQUIER tipo de insecticida comercial se estan arriesgando!
El znico insecticida que he encontrado que absolutmente GARANTIZA no solamente matar pulgas y garrapatas, sino tambien matar araqas, hormigas, cucarachas, caracsles y multitud de otras plagas se llama:
DIATAMACEOUS EARTH.
Diatamaceous Earth es un producto natural de la tierra creado de crustaceos fosilizados pulverizados. Es un polvo que actza como billones de pequeqas navajitas que flagelan el cuerpo de estas ofensivas pestes hasta que se deshidratan y mueren.
Este producto no es un VENENO, es completamente no toxico, y porque no es veneno no hay manera de generar inmunidad, asi que se puede usar repetidamente cuantas veces lo necesite. NO se puede generar inmunidad a las cortadas de la piel. !Tampoco lo pueden hacer los insectos!
Debera tomar ciertas precauciones cuando lo esparza sobre la area donde lo va a usar para asegurarse que sus nenes y sus mascotas no estin presentes y asegurarse de protejer los ojos y cuidarse de no aspirar el polvo. (!Puede sangrarle la nariz y sentira sus ojos como si estuviera en una tormenta de arena!).
Es una buena idea usar camisa con manga larga y usar guantes cuando este usandolo, no porque el producto sea toxico sino por que es in disecante que no solo cortara la piel o carne de los insectos , sino que tambiin hara cortaduras en su piel y dejara su piel seca y quizaz hasta se produzca resequedad de la piel por un par de dias.
Esto no es peligroso para usted, solamente molesto. !Al menos lo fui para mi --nadie me dijo que yo era solamente un insecto mas grande en lo que se refiere al producto y no protejm mi piel por muchos aqos!
Despuis de que se ha preparado y ha retirado los ninos y sus mascotas del patio o jarden, tambiin querra asegurarse de que cuando vaya a esparcir Diatamaceous Earth, no lo hara en un dia cuando sopla el viento, o antes o despuis de que las abejas estan libando y polinizando las plantas (!Necesitamos que las
abejas polinizen nuestros jardines y que regresen sanas y salvas a su colmena a producir su preciosa miel!). Esparza una buena capa del polvo sobre su patio entero prestando especial atencisn a las bases de la casa y alrededor de la terraza, entradas o porticos.
Esparza el polvo por encima y por debajo de los arbustos y saczdalos para que el polvo baje y caiga sobre todas las ramas. Lem el aqo pasado que las garrapatas se suben en los arboles tan alto asi y esperan a que pasen los animales o algzn humano y les caen encima! Tambiin puede usar este producto dentro de su casa - pero yo no le recomedarma que lo usara en la alfombra - es un disecante, pero puede usarlo sin peligro en pisos de madera y azulejos o losa. Lo puede usar en el desvan o buhardilla, y si tiene sstano zselo ahm tambien. Mata aranjas y cucarachas.
!Recomiende a sus vecinos que usen este producto en toda su propiedad para que las pulgas y garrapatas no sigan regresando a nuestros hogares! Recuerde, hay animales extraviados sueltos por toda la vecindad todo el tiempo y la mayorma probablemente son portadores de estas pestes. !No tienen a nadie que se preocupe por ellos y que vea que no estin infectados!
Como este producto no es toxico no hay actividad residual despuis de usarlo. Necesitara permanecer vigilante y a la primera indicacisn de una nueva infestacisn !usilo de nuevo!
Los agricultores usan Diatamaceous Earth en el forraje que le dan al ganado, a los caballos, vacas, cabras, etcitera. Yo tambien se lo doy de comer a mis mascotas en medida de una cucharada sopera por cada alimentacisn de un perro tamaqo mediano y una cucharadita cafetera para perros pequeqos y gatos. !Les ayuda a eliminar lombrices cuando se usa de esta manera! !Recuerde, no es un toxico! NO LE HARA DAQO a sus mascotas si lo mezcla con la comida en las cantidades mencionadas arriba.
Otra manera de protejer sus mascotas es darles levadura de cerveza en polvo o en tabletas. Se pueden encontrar en su tienda de abarrotes, botica, o tienda de comestibles sanos y naturales (healthfood store). Tambien les puede dar a comer ajos crudos o en capsulas. Esto hace que la sangre de los animales les sepa mal a las garrapatas y preferiran buscar otro anfitrisn. Esto es solo un precaucisn adicional pero... !mas vale matar estas pestes para que no se les peguen a sus mascotas o lo prefieran a usted en vez de sus mascotas! Probablemente usted no va a encontrar Diatamaceous Earth en su tienda de abarrotes o en la botica, pero puede encontrarse en la tienda de alimentos para mascotas. Le costara entre 85 centavos a $1.15 de dolar por libra. Algunas tiendas solo lo venden en paquetes de 3 a 4 libras y en otras se puede comprar en volumenes desde unas cuantas onzas hasta la cantidad que desei. Es simplemente un producto que afortunadamente descubrm hace aqos y que he encontrado que es extremadamente efectivo. Despuis de casi haber muerto porque otros usaron herbicidas e insecticidas comerciales descuidadamente !me dis mucho gusto descubrir que habma algo "alla" que no solamente es efectivo sino que tampoco es daqino para mi, mi familia o mis mascotas! Yo NO les puedo GARANTIZAR de ninguna manera ningzn producto. Cualquier producto que usted compre y use !Lo hace a su propio riesgo!
