My first proven ancestor is Gideon Hickenbottom. In 1824 he purchased 50 acres of land, and in 1830 purchased two tracts of 40 and 44 acres all in southeast Washington Co., VA. He was a head of household in the 1830 Washington Co. VA. Census. In 1832 he and Elenor sold 50 acres on the south side of the South Fork of the Holsten river and in 1833 they sold the other two tracts. He had a daughter born in 1832 in Virginia, son John was born in Illinois in 1834. They would have moved to Illinois between 1832 and Sep. 17 1834. Starting in 1840 he was in the Clay County, Illinois State and Federal Census until his death Jan. 17 1854 at age 54ys. 6ms. 25 ds. His estate was probated in 1854 in Clay Co., IL
Computing Gideons age from his tombstone he was born Jun. 7, 1799
The 1850 Census has his age as 45. His birthdate would be c. 1805.
Gideon's parents are not known. One possibly is Moses Hickenbottom of Washington Co. VA who married Elizabeth Farris on Apr 28 1800. Elizabeth's father was Gideaon Farris.
Was Gideon H. named after his grandfather?
Was Gideon's son Moses named after his grandfather?
