Ed McClelland has created a USGS Survey Map for Saltlick Township.
The population of Salt Lick Township at decennial censuses since 1810 has been as follows: 1810 (994); 1820 (1172); 1830 (1499); 1850 (879); 1860 (989); 1870 (1209); 1880 (1371); and 1890 (1339).
Church history appears as an essential and important element in the
development of the township. The present churches (circa 1880) were: The
Luthern Church of God; Evangelical Association and United Brethern at Indian
Head and five other churches which the Church of God constitutes two, the
Evangelical, one and the German Baptist, one.
(From Nelsons Biographical Dictionary of Fayette County)
Schools were in existence in the township early in the century, or as far
back as 1810. John Wibel, a German by birth, was the first teacher on record.
In 1900, the schools and teachers were as follows:
Black Creek, J. K. Craig; Buchanan, H. R. Adams; Center,
Samuel Solomon; Clinton, Len Sleasman; Franklin, H. M.
Chorpenning; Jockeyhill, Mrs. Nora Slonecker; Kesslar, Lee
Cramer; Longwood, W. H. Dumbauld; Trout Run, J. F.Adams; and
Washington, J. P. Barkley.
