The Signifyin' monkey", a song from the past"
Deep down in the jungle where the coconuts grow,
Lives a "signifyin' monkey"
|
---|
He told Mr. lion one bright and sunny day,
Said "There's a BIG bully elephant
|
Now you know Mr. lion He couldn't possibly be your friend Cause he talks about the shape, that your family is in;
|
He talks about your mama even your sister too; Man he shook his tail at your daddy and man, that big cat "flew"
|
Now the lion listened on Man, he got "sore" He popped his ole bushy tail like a forty-four!
|
He went on thru the jungle with a terrific breeze Knockin' coconuts from coconut trees. |
"Chorus": Well, just about as far as the eyes could see, was the signifyin' monkey and the coconut tree. |
On down thru the jungle now and who did he see? No one but that big burly elephant propped up against a coconut tree |
Mr. lion said "Aha,it's plain to see, that YOU the big cat whats been talkin' 'bout me" The elephant looked up,from the corner o' his eye Said,"Ya better just go on you big bully and pick on somebody your own size".!! | Chorus:
"Well, just about as far as the eye could see was the signifyin' monkey in the coconut tree" |
|
Now the lion looked up and who did he see? No one but that signifyin' monkey sittin' up in that coconut tree.
|
He said "Mr. lion,it's a terrible shame, yesterday you were king of the jungle, today you look so tame".!! |
Just then the monkey,he, he started jumping up and down. When his feet missed the branches, man, his head sure hit the ground. Now, the monkey looked up, with tears in his eyes, said "Now wait a minute Mr. Lion, I wants ta apologize". |
"If you'll just let me up, like a good man should, i'll beat her head, all over these woods". Now just when the lion, was puttin' up, a pretty good fight, you know that monkey, jumped almost outta sight. |
"Chorus": Well, just about as far as the eyes could see, was the signifyin' monkey and the coconut tree. |
