BOOK-AHOLICS ANNONYMOUS
The other three books in the series are:
There is an incredible sequel too:
3. COLD MOUNTAIN - The work I've done in geneology makes me think this may be the most realistic "hero" of THE WAR (as it's known in Alabama). The ending is perfect.
4. REBECCA - Yes, it's the old one by Daphne DuMaurier. I read it in the 7th grade and it is still my favorite fictional book of all time.
5. THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS (trilogy) - Introduce your favorite adolescent to the magic. These books you remember forever. But....don't waste your money on SILMARILLION, his son finished it from notes and it's disjointed and boring.
6. RUN WITH THE HORSEMEN - Ferrol Sams should stop practicing medicine and write full time. (I'm sure his patients would disagree!!!) If you can read more than 20 pages of this book without having an asthma attack from laughing so hard, you're in dire need of an anti-depressant. Wait until you read about the rooster and the mule!!!!!! These books will be classics 100 years from now, so buy the hard cover if you can.
In case you haven't noticed, there's a pattern to my favorite books, most of them have sequels, and this one does too. The Whisper of the River (Paperback)...When All the World was Young (Paperback)
7. Any Book by PAT CONROY- The Prince of Tides was the first book I read by him. I'll never forget the first lines. I thought "WOW, what a sentence, I think I'll read it again!!! BEACH MUSIC was the last one, and becuase the reviews weren't that good I waited to read it....I loved it. My favorites are probably The Great Santini and The Prince of Tides. It is a tragedy to make movies of his books because it prevents people from reading the books and they are a kazillion times better than the movies.
8. Anything by ANNE RIVERS SIDDONS - I started reading her books when Pat Conroy named her as his favorite author in an article in Southern Living. PEACHTREE ROAD blew me away. What an ending!!!!!! I have a cousin just like his!! It remains my favorite of her books. I like all of the others, but Fault Line is probably my least favorite. The latest, which I ordered today is Low Country

Nothing makes me madder than to start a book and realize it's not any good. I'm so compulsive I have to finish it, but it makes me furious because time is a terrible thing to waste. I'm a bookaholic and probably read too much, but I sure have visited a lot of great places and met a lot of interesting people in my mind.

1. AT HOME IN MITFORD - Feel assaulted by the "information age"? This book, the beginning of a series of four will bring you down peacefully to earth. Works like a cup of warm milk, but No calories AND IT'S ON SALE!!!!!
2. LITTLE ALTARS EVERYWHERE - The best book about growing up in the South in the Fifties and Sixties. Learn how the South put the "D" in Dysfunctional. You'll understand the term "eccentric" as opposed to "NUTS". Learn about the REAL drugs......Coca-Cola, coffee, tobacco and alcohol.
9. Anything by PATRICIA CORNWELL- Light mysteries involving the female Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia. Maybe it's my medical background, but I like these books.
