The Reverend William E. Crouser and his descendants There have been a couple of Crouser families in California. The Reverend William Crouser, a Lutheran pastor, and his wife, J. Belle Young, arrived in about 1902 with their infant son, Clarence, and settled in San Jose. At various times they lived briefly in San Francisco and Oakland, but for the most part, they lived in San Jose. Their son Clarence Crouser became a Lutheran pastor and served parishes in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Jose, and was a chaplain in the US Navy during WWII. He has a few descendants still living in the San Jose area and in southern California.

George Washington Crouser and his descendants The other Crouser family lived in the central valley in the vicinity of Fresno. They were George Washington Crouser and his wife, Mary Anna Campbell, and their sons, all from Marion County, West Virginia. George W.Crouser was born in Dent's Run, West Virginia, on 3 December 1860, and died in Hanford, Kings County, California, on 29 July 1914. His wife, Mary Anna, was born on 16 January 1865 in Marion County, West Virginia, and died in Martinez, Solano County, California, on 23 October 1952.
