In response to randis question of 25 Mar, the naming patterns used by the 
Scottish even into this century were:  
Sons: 1st-Paternal Grandfather
          2nd-Maternal Grandfather
          3rd-Father
Daughters: 1st-Maternal Grandmother
                 2nd-Paternal Grandmother
                 3rd-Mother
Additional children were usually named after uncles and aunts, either by blood or marriage.  Exceptional might be to commerate a new pastor, etc.
