The Ponte Vecchio
|
The Florence Gail and I visited in October was cold and
rainy. We visited the
Duomo
, the Piazza della Signoria
, waited in line for the magnificence of
The Uffizi Gallery
, went through the Pitti
Palace
and shopped on the Ponte Vecchio. It was bitterly cold, but it was
still Florence, and we loved it. The photo of the Ponte Vecchio at
the top of the page was taken from a window in the Uffizi.
In May Ray and I enjoyed sunshine and were more patient about
waiting in lines and walking extensively. Of course we went to the
cathedral and its Baptistery
, We went to the
Accademia Gallery
to get our quota of David photos, visited
Santa Croce
, the Medici Chapels
, Santa Maria Novella
, and the Uffizi. Visited the
Bargello Museum
, which closes at 2:00, which means 1:45! We checked out the grain
spouts at Orsanmichele
, and then had lunch at a restaurant opposite it to study the statues on its
exterior. On our last day, we drove to
Piazzale Michelangelo
for it's breathtaking views. We attended Sunday Mass at
San Miniato
with a bishop and four priests! If you have seen the PBS
special called "Michelangelo Restored," many of his Florentine works
were shown on it, especially the Medici Chapel.
