THE COLORPOINT SIBERIAN CAT

Comrade Cattery welcomes to America from St. Petersburg, Russia one of the first colorpoint Siberians. A BRIEF HISTORY ....... The first Siberians were imported into the United States in June of 1990. Their place in the cat fancy had just begun. Many breeders began working with this breed and their acceptance in the American Associations was astounding, advancing to Championship status in 6 of the 7 registries that recognize the breed. Many of the breed have received their individual Championships in multiple organizations, some earning National CFF wins as Experimentals and Provisionals their first and second years in the show rings. Wins in AACE. BUT SOMETHING HAS ALWAYS BEEN MISSING..... The original Russian standard received with this large longhaired breed included a colors that were excluded from all of the Standards rewritten for this breed that were submitted to our American registries....... THE COLORPOINT SIBERIAN CAT......... The colorpoint Siberian was discovered in the then city of Leningrad, (now St. Petersburg), Russia along the banks of the Neva River in the 1960's. Russian Siberian breeders believing that Siamese had bred with the homeless Siberians Cats along the river began to discover colorpoints in their litters. This began the "foundation line" for our newly imported colorpoint Siberians. Lovingly referred to as "Neva Masquerades", Neva for the river where they were found and Masquerade for the festive colors being produced the colorpoint Siberian began. No other pointed cats have been crossed with today's Siberians. The popularity of the colorpoint soon became recognized by the breeders and was much sought after. COMING TO AMERICA.......

The President of "The Aboriginal Russian Cat Club" (TARC) a TICA affiliated club had told us of these wonderful pointed Siberians. She has stated that the colorpoint Siberian has been in the breeding program since the beginning of the the Siberian breeding and is the same breed. We began asking questions and decided to obtain some of these colorpoint Siberians, with her assistance and the assistance of a Russian TICA judge our cats and kittens were hand selected and shipped to Maine, New Jersey, California and Minnesota to various existing Siberian catteries. The oldest Colorpoint Siberian to enter this Country was 10 months old at the time of import, and yes she understands English, has been judged in Russia as a kitten by some of the American TICA judges. THEIR FUTURE...... At this time we are working with the Russians as their standard is not exactly the same as ours. The Siberian colorpoint breeders

strongly believe that this breed is in our care from the Russian cat fanciers and we want to work together with them in promoting the "True Siberian" as it was meant to be !!!!
