A Mother~Daughter Book Club

Welcome Readers! This page is for members of the Ruby Red Bookworms Mother~Daughter Book Club and anyone interested in reading.

Book Club History

Formed in June 1998, what began as a summer reading club with mothers and daughters has grown into a long~term book club. Meetings are held monthly, hands-on programs and field trips are planned according to the reading selection. Meetings are rotated between members homes and in the community.

How did we get started? After reading Shireen Dodson's book, THE MOTHER~DAUGHTER BOOK CLUB, one mother~daughter asked fellow classmates and neighbors if they would be interested in forming a group. Following Ms. Dodson's formula for starting a mother~daughter book club, we have been meeting for several months and are on a book club journey.

What do we read? The daughters decided to read Newbery Award winners and classics which are readily available in the library or local book store. Our first selection was FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER, E.L. Konigsburg. Each meeting time is set aside to plan for the next selection.

How did we get the name? Each of the daughters submitted suggestions and voted on the name.
