Born August 12, 1997!
Rebecca - Kyle - Amanda
After two years of surgeries for Liz and many years of waiting, I am happy to announce our three new additions to the family. Amanda, Kyle and Rebecca were born August 12, 1997. You can see a small photo album here. At first Liz and I were a little overwhelmed by the thought of having three children at the same time but with the help of our doctor, the Triplet Connection and many great triplet related sites on the web we became more anxious for their arrival. Here are some triplet updates I have kept including their statistics. The Birth On August 9th Liz began having 12 to 15 contractions per hour, which according to Dr. Low was way to many. He admitted her to the hospital and began treating her with medication to slow the contractions. Day by day her contractions became worse and the doctor decided that it would be safer for mom and the babies to take them, right away. Liz was very nervous since the beginning of her pregnancy about having the babies taken by C-Section. Luckily it turned into a great experience and definitely necessary to bring healthy triplets to the world. She was also nervous about delivering the babies at only 33 weeks gestation. The doctor assured us that although the babies could possibly need oxygen for the first few days, they should do very well after the delivery. When the triplets were born I was surprised but comforted by the fact that the doctors and nurses had been very calm during the delivery. After the babies had been cleaned up in the NICU the nurses brought them back to show us how well they did. Liz and I asked, "Shouldn't they be on respirators or something?" The nurses said there was no reason for it because all were breathing very well on their own. The next day I spoke with the neonatal physician about the triplets condition. He said that it was "Miraculous"how well the triplets had done. They had done so well that he decided to use them in a co-bedding study that hospitals have been participating in all over the country. The idea was to study the triplets and their reaction to being put in the same bed in the NICU. It was said that sometimes terminally ill multiples can make a physical comeback when put together with their sibling. The study on our triplets showed that there was indeed a special bond between the three. |
