The three closest airports to the Val di Non are Munich, Germany to the north, Innsbruck, Austria to the north and Milan, Italy to the west. They are all about an equal distance to the final destination of the Non Valley.
We have always recommened to friends that they travel via the Munich airport. Air fares are generally less expensive to this airport as are the charges for rental cars. From the Munich airport, one drives south to and through the city of Munich and on to Innsbruck, Austria, approximately 120 miles south. From Inssbruck, you proceed south on the A12 road (autobahn / autostrada) over the Brenner Pass and into northern Italy. Once you have reached the city of Bolzano, you have three choices: (1)Proceed past Bolzano to the Mezzocorona exit and into the Val di Non via the villages of Vigo and Taio. . (2) Proceed through Bolzano to Appiano to the Mendola Pass. This road will take you into the Val di Non via the villages of Ruffre and Ronzone. (3) At Bolzano, turn right toward Merano and travel about 8 miles to the Lana exit. Proceed through the town of Lana and up the Passo Palade. This will bring you into the Val di Non via the villages of San Felice and Tret.
If you do not want to rent a car, train service is available from Munich to Innsbruck and on to Cles in the Val di Non. From Cles, you will need further ground transportation to reach the villages of the Alta Val di Non and Terza Sponda (Revo', Cloz, Brez). These trains are electric and they are very fast and quiet.
Traveling from Innsbruck is essentially the same. However, if you are coming from Milan, you must travel east from the city of Milan to the Verona / Lake Garda exit and head north towards Bolzano. Just before Bolzano, you take the Mezzocorona exit and proceed into the Val di Non.
