Gambit got his humans at the pound in Georgia... He was a little kitty then, but without siblings. Maybe his early experiences caused him to be the loner he is today. He used to like to brag that he was a Maine Coon. "The Tail with the CAT" But then he realized that he MUST be, without a doubt a Purebred Norwegian Forest Cat, Of course, there is no real evidence to support this claim... Except, of course, his good looks.
On a routine visit to the vet last year(gotta have those vaccinations), the vet said she heard a IV/VI systolic heart murmur. "PMI Mitral". She acted as if he could drop dead at any minute, and proceeded to tell a number of unpleasant stories of cats, who did just that. Gambit did not appreciate her talking like that in front of him. Gambit never complains--and appears to be as healthy as a HOUSE. Gambit's Meowmie and Daddie took him to a Cat Specialist for a second opinion. She heard it too. He had bloodwork and an ultrasound. He has been diagnosed with Cardiomyopothy. His heart is too small for his body and the walls have thickened as it has "hurried" to compensate. Our new vet (the Cat Specialist) said it is very unlikely that Gambit will just "drop dead", as he has not shown any outward symptoms of his heart disease. (i.e. panting or lack of interest in food) She is treating him with a daily dose of aetenol 12.5mg (half a pill). She told us this treatment has been very successful with other cats who share Gambit's conditon. And it seems to be working on him too. At his 3 month ultra sound the vet saw no change. Which is what we want I am told. So Gamb will stay on this meds forever (or until it stops working) So far so good.
On a lighter note, Gambit has a little bother named Nigel, a pomeranian. Nigel is yapper and loves to fight with Gambit, much to Gambit's amusement and/or annoyance. Gambit also has 2 new sisters. One is Josie, a little grey mamacat, who he is quite fond of chasing, and the other is Scully, a GSD who is fond of chasing him!
Gambit is a member of Henry's Back Fence Club and the Society of Meditative Cats. And he has a beautiful wink-wink, she is an absolutely GORGEOUS Maine Coon. Her name is Maggie Xuxa, she lives at LisaViolet's CatHouse. And she makes his eyes bug out and his heart sing.
