Native Americans have lived in the Utah Valley for thousands of years.
Franciscan Monks Father Escalante and Father Deminguez were the first Europeans
that recorded their travels here. They entered the valley in September
23, 1776 looking for a better route from Santa Fe to Monterrey.
The Dominguez-Escalante Monument in the city park that was erected
in 1976 as one of the cities Bi-centennial projects. [5-24-98]
The expedition saw a similar view as they entered the
valley. [Minus the buildings of course.]
Various fur trappers and explorers were in the valley during the
early 1800's.

The first full time Europeans arrived in the mid 1800's.
Mormon settlers came during the winter of 1850-51.
Utah granted statehood on January 4, 1896.
Facts and Climate
We are located about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City.
The city has been growing rapidly during the mid 1990's.
Our population is about 18,000, which is good size for Utah.
There are several small industries, many retail outlets, and lots
of people commute to neighboring cities for work.
