Thank you for this easy to use support network. I had a Professor,Ph.D., state in a Child Abuse class talking about neglect that there was no purpose to breastfeed after 12 months. She said it was only for the mothers benefit and no benefit to the infan /toddler. She also said there was health problems to the mother, example problems with teeth. I have read "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding", and it has become my bible....I just love all the information. I can't express enough how much I have learned just thru the book. I have been having a problem with milk supply in our third month of breastfe ding, and I checked out your website. I was connected to Cheri, a counselor in Phoenix, AZ, who was just as supportive as anyone could possibly be. She and I emailed back and forth quite a few times, and she gave me alot of great information, including his web site. I FELT SO CLOSE AND CONTENTED WHEN I NURSED THEM THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND NURSING TO ANYONE. ALSO WITH THE C-SECTION BIRTH YOU FEEL THAT YOU MISSED SOMETHING IN THE BIRTH PROCESS. IT BRINGS YOUR DAY TO A STANDSTILL WHEN YOU DO NURSE,IT IS ALSO A CALMING PROCESS FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR CHILD.I NURSED MY CHILDREN IN PRIVATE AND IN PUBLIC PLACES. ALL YOU NEED IS A 5X5 FT. SQUARE OF CLOTH TO DRAPE OVER YOUR SHOULDER AND THE CHILD. NO ONE SEES ANYTHING. OUR CHURCH PROVIDED A ROCKER IN THE LADIES ROOM FOR THE NURSING MOTHERS. It's been very interesting to listen to women talk about why they don't, and mostly it's from a lack of education and support, I've found. And supportive husbands/partners a e crucial, since it is a family decision, for the most part. I spent the last month and a half on bedrest with preeclampsia. I delivered at the end of Feb. and although I had a great deal of pain while my son latched on at first, I stuck with it and am still nursing him. It's great - and so conveniently portable! I ll breastfeed him until he doesn't want to anymore. If you're looking for resources in Northern Nevada, please e-mail me. I am somewhat hooked into the healthcare community here in-the-middle-of-nowhere-on-the-way-to-everywhere. Sometimes it's hard to remember here that Nevada has fewer people than the Sacramento greater metropolitan area. Since moving here from there I've had to become even more resourceful, and am glad to share. I look forward to getting mail.

It's been very interesting to listen to women talk about why they don't, and mostly it's from a lack of education and support, I've found. I have enjoyed viewing your web site. It has been very informative. I have breastfed my daughter and partially my special needs son. I am now pregnant again and am trying to do everything that I can to prevent the mishaps that I had with my son. He was in NICU for two weeks of which I was not "aloud" to breatfeed him because he was too small (4lbs 8 oz). I really needed support that I was unaware was available to me. I just had my second baby who's one and a half month now and just realized I had an overactive let-down reflex thanks to your articles. I always wondered why my kids are so fussy and gassy and now I realize it's because of me, not them. Hopefully by follo ing your advice, I can improve my situation because this second baby gets really fussy at night time now and it can take two hours before I can get him to sleep. I'm going to try just feeding one breast rather than both and pulling out with my let-down r flex. thank you. I just wish I knew about you earlier. Would have saved me alot of heartaches.

I have two children, 6 & 7 years old, and I wish I had gotten the encouragement and information then that I've had access to with this pregnancy (due 4/25/98). I am enthusiastically looking forward to breastfeeding this time around. Wish me luck!

I have enjoyed being a nursing mother for almost two years now. Nursing was the best decision I could have made for my daughter and I. It has taken alot of strenght to be proud of what my daughter and I do. Family support has been great, but public opi ion has been very close minded. Recently my daughter was in the hospital with the Rotavirus.(Flu) The nurses were appuled at the fact the I was still nursing a toddler. My spirts were diminished. I thought I was doing the best for my daughter. Well, t ats when family support comes in handy. Even being a "two year nurser", support is still very important. To all the mothers who get discouraged, PLEASE stay in contact with a support group. It will make you a much stronger person when it comes to doing what is best for you and your child.

I just found out last week that I am four weeks preganant. My sister breast-fed her three children and I want to do the same for mine. This is my first baby. A few people have told me that some mom's can't breastfeed due to baby not latching on, too pa nful, not enough milk, etc. I try not to get discouraged as I feel very strong about breastfeeding my baby. I plan on getting in touch with LLL in my area (Whittier?) for help. I know there are things I should do prior to baby...roughing up nipples, et ., yet I'm uninformed. My sister passed away four years ago but thankfully I have a few freinds who breast-fed. I am very determined, but I don't want to be one of those determined one's who couldn't breast feed. I am a first time mom who has, in conjunction with my husband, made the decision to stay at home and raise my child (and hopefully, children). Breastfeeding has been an incredibly enlightening experience insofar as getting to know my baby and bonding wit him (not to mention all the conveniences).
