Descendants of Archibald Berry
This is a work in progress...always changing as we find new
records.
This information has been gathered
by Roberta Cooke Schmidt, Virginia Neimeyer and Dave Berry.
Thanks to my cousins who are helping me figure out my Berry Ancestry!
To the best of my knowledge, the following info is correct.
Generation No. 1
1. ARCHIBALD1 BERRY was born April 14, 1784, and died March 26, 1875. He married (1) LETITIA (LOUTICIA) JAMES. She was born February 1, 1800, and died October 2, 1882. He married (2) MARTHA E. CONNELLY. She was born 1775, and died 1820.
Notes for ARCHIBALD BERRY:
I had linked Elisha to Archibald, after seeing a deed abstract dated 12 Mar
1868, naming Elisha and William A. Berry as witnesses.
However, it wasn't until I got similar information from Dave Berry and Virginia
Neimeyer...their research also shows that Elisha (or Elijah) is a child to
Archibald. I still need to work on the line, to find "proof" of
kinship.
Children of ARCHIBALD BERRY and LETITIA JAMES are:
i. BARTLETT ALEXANDER.2 BERRY.
ii. DAVID J. BERRY.
iii. JOHN WESLEY BERRY, b. August 6, 1837.
iv. LUCY CAROLINE BERRY, b. 1828.
v. SARAH ANN BERRY.
Children of ARCHIBALD BERRY and MARTHA CONNELLY are:
vi. ELMINAH (MYRA)2 BERRY, b. 1812.
vii. JAMES LOTT BERRY, b. May 23, 1818.
2. viii. ELISHA BERRY, b. 1820; d. Aft. 1893.
Generation No. 2
2. ELISHA2 BERRY (ARCHIBALD1) was born 1820, and died Aft. 1893. He married MARGARET PEGGY ENGLAND. She was born 1818.
There is a question as to whether Elisha was married to Margaret England, or Margaret Elizabeth Bradshaw. On his daughter Martha Caroline's death certificate, it names Peggy England as the mother. It is known that Peggy is a nickname for Margaret. On census records, she is called Margaret. Burke County, NC Heritage book, says that Archibald's son, Elijah (notice spelling) is married to an Elizabeth Bradshaw. We are still finding proof of this marriage. If anyone has a marriage bond or license, please contact me. Thank you!

1926 Hurricane - South Florida, Sept. 18, 1926
The storm waters of the Atlantic
united with the waters of Biscayne Bay and the storm surge swept westward into
the city of Miami early on the 18th. Maximum winds were 138 mph. About 18,000
homes were either completely demolished or had roofs torn off. Over 100 people
were killed in the Miami area; about 5,000 were injured. This hurricane then
moved out into the Gulf of Mexico, passing just south of the Panhandle and
affecting the Pensacola area on the 20th, before making final landfall between
New Orleans and Mobile. Total death toll over 240 people.

In 1926 a great hurricane struck Fort Lauderdale and totally demolished the
beach and town. It filled the inlet with so much sand that the decision was made
to permanently close it and relocate the harbor to its present location.
