Thomas Wesley Rose was born in Claiborne, Tennessee on 07 May 1880. He died 03 July 1943 in Peterstown, Monroe Co., West Virginia from hypertension and chronic kidney failure. Most people remember him as "Wes." Wes was buried at Sunset View Cemetary at Bozoo, Monroe Co., West Virginia.
Wes first married Bessie Mae Osburn. Bessie was born in Lee Co., Virginia on 22 March 1884 and died 14 December 1921 in Wise Co., Virginia. According to her death certificate death came from uterine cancer, eighteen hours after surgery.
Wes and Bessie marriage certificate was found in Lee Co., Virginia, dated 03 August 1901. Wes' parents were listed as A. C. and Millie Rose. Bessie's parent was listed as John Osburn. Wes was 21 years old and Bessie was listed as 18 years old.
With this new information, the identity of Wes' and Bessie's parents are a mystery. As too, is Wes' age. His tombstone list the 1881 date and his marriage certificate to Bessie assumes 1880. According to his marriage certificate to Ella Persinger Browning (below) his date of birth could have been 1888.
Wes and Bessie had the following children:
i. Leonard Rose was born in Hemphill, McDowell Co., West Virginia and married a woman named Ruth. Ruth was born in Washington State. Leonard may have been married to Amy Summers.
ii. Minnie Carroll Rose was born 28 March 1904 in Virginia. She married George Bailey. Their children included: Jean Bailey, Robert Bailey, Johnny Bailey, Opal Bailey, Rosa Ella Bailey, and Carrie June Bailey.
iii. Reba Adeline Rose was born 12 December 1906 in Virginia. She married Steve Swick. Steve was born in Warsaw, Poland. Reba and Steve had four children: Jack Swick, Jimmie Swick, Ella Mae Swick, and Rosella Swick.
iv. Melvin Rose was born 01 June 1907 in Virginia and died 10 June 1955 in Corder, Missouri. Melvin had the following children: Mae Rose, Edith Rose, Wanda Rose, Lorraine Rose, Linda Rose, and Thomas Wesley Rose.
v. Nancy Ethel "Hattie" Rose was born 18 August 1912 in Virginia and died 26 December 1986 in Ballard, Monroe Co., West Virginia. Hattie married Rhea Smallwood. Together they had the following children: Betty Smallwood, Faye Smallwood, and Judy Smallwood.
vi. Nettie Mary Buren Rose was born 05 March 1915 in Blackwood, Wise Co., Virginia and died 14 March 1985 in Hialeah, Florida. Nettie married Basil Norman Bentley, Sr. Nettie and Basile had one child: Basil Norman Bentley, Jr.
vii. Emmett Rose was born 21 February 1921 in Rhoda, Wise Co., Virginia. He married Bertha Spangler.
Two years after Bessie's death, Wes married Ella Mae Persinger Meador Browning. They married 05 January 1923 in Peterstown, Monroe Co., West Virginia. Wes was listed as 35 years old and Ella was 23 years old, according to their marriage certificate. They were married by L. D. Chandler. Ella was born 31 January 1900 and died 05 February 1974 in Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia in a hospital after a long illness. Ella is buried in Sunset View Cemetary beside Wes.
Ella married Henry Clark Meador on 08 November 1913 in Monroe Co., West Virginia. Henry was born about 1886 and died sometime between 1918-1919. It is believed he may have been killed in the coal mines. It is also uncertain if he was working in McDowell Co., West Virginia. Ella and Henry had one daughter: Mary Elizabeth Meador. Mary was born 03 January 1919 and married Carry Miller Long on 10 March 1940 in Peterstown, Monroe Co., West Virginia. Mary and Carry are buried in unmarked graves in Sunset View Cemetary at Bozoo, West Virginia.
It is believed by family members after Henry died, Ella became engaged to marry a Mr. Rice with whom she was with child. Mr. Rice was killed before they could marry. After Mr. Rice's demise, Ella married a Mr. Browning. During which time she gave birth to a daughter: Florence Browning.
After Mr. Browning's death Ella met and married Thomas Wesley Rose. Together, Ella and Wes had the following children: Cecil Henry "Boots" Rose, Foster David Rose, Helen Mae Rose, Effie JoAnn Rose, Paul Christopher Rose, Ernest Sylvester Rose3, Carl Wayne Rose, and Gaynelle Rose.

Cecil Rose was born 11 December 1923 in Hemphill, McDowell County, West Virginia. He married first Diane Dunn then Hazel Meadows. Boots and Hazel had the following children: Joey Lee Rose, Sandy Marie Rose, and Timothy Allen Rose.
Hazel had a son, Curtis Dunn by a previous marriage.

Foster Rose was born 22 February 1926 in Hemphill, McDowell County, West Virginia and died 02 November 1970 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Foster is buried in the Neely Family Cemetery at Oakvale, Mercer County, West Virginia.

Helen Rose was born 13 August 1930 in Hemphill, McDowell County, West Virginia and married Guy Washington Dunn of Peterstown, Monroe County, West Virginia. Their children included: Virginia Dunn, Brenda Dunn, Martha Virginia Dunn, Benny Joe Dunn.
Benny Joe Dunn was born 08 February 1957 and died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. He is buried at Sunset View Cemetery in Bozoo, Monroe County, West Virginia.
Martha Virginia "Jennie" Dunn married William Brookman of Peterstown, Monroe County, West Virginia. Jennie was born 29 May 1946.

JoAn Rose was born 25 May 1932 in Hemphill, McDowell County, West virginia and died 29 May 1996 in a Bluefield, Mercer County, West Virginia hsopital following a long illness of leukemia. She is buried at the Neely Family Cemetery in Oakvale, Mercer County, West Virginia along with her brother, Foster and son, David. JoAn married Marvin "Pete" Neely on 31 March 1951.
JoAn and Pete had the following children: Ernest David Neely, Marvin Eugene Neely, Jimmy Neely, Effie Marie Neely, Bobby Darrell Neely, and Michael Dale Neely.
David Neely was born 22 November 1949 and died 31 January 1969 in Oakvale, Mercer County, West Virginia after a car accident. David is buried in the Neely Family Cemetery at Oakvale.
Marvin Neely was born 15 January 1952 andd married Linda. Linda and Marvin had the following children: Kevin Neely, Jennifer Neely, and Steven Neely.
Jimmy Neely was born 16 January 1954. He married twice. First to Sandy and second to Deah. Jimmy and Sandy had one son, Darrell Neely.
Marie Neely was born 21 October 1956 and married twice. From her first marriage she bore a son, Josh Bouldin.

Paul Rose was born 24 January 1934 on Powell's Mountain in Monroe County, West Virginia and died 13 July 1979 in Princeton, Mercer cOcunty, West Virginia hospital following a long illness with stomach cancer. Although Paul never married, his life mate was Evelyn Wills who still resides in Peterstown, Monroe County, West Virginia in their home they made together. Paul is best remembered for his hunting skill.

Carl "Carly" Rose was born 04 March 1942 and married Shirley Ann Cumbee. Shirley was born 16 February 1946. No children were produced in this relationship. However, Shirley and Carly raised, for a while, their nephew, Jerry Wayne Rose when Ernie and Pansy separated.

Gaynelle Rose died three weeks after birth in 1943. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Sunset View Cemetery, in Bozoo, Monroe County, West Virginia. After Ella gave birth to Gaynelle "she was permenantly crippled due to the fact that the baby had grown to her spine" according to family members.

Ernest Sylvester Rose was born 04 May 1939 in Hemphill, McDowell Co., West Virginia and died 27 June 1991 in a Roanoke, Roanoke Co., Virginia hsopital following a long illness with lung cancer. Ernie is buried in the Sunset View Cemetary at Bozoo, West Virginia near his father, mother, and brother, Paul.
Ernie married Pansy Vae Jones on 01 February 1959 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia . Pansy was born 11 June 1941 in Peterstown, Monroe Co., West Virginia to Claude Swanson and Euna Mae Dunn Jones.
Pansy and Ernie divorced 23 July 1975, the same day Ernie married Nellie Gray Campbell in Stafford, Virginia. Nellie was born 08 December 1941 in Clarkton, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Clyde and Viola Estelle Armstrong Campbell.
Ernie and Pansy "Pam" had the following children: Edwin Harlan Rose, Brenda Gale Rose, Debra Lynn Rose, and Jerry Wayne Rose.
Ernie enlisted in the US Army on 07 June 1956 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia. He was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. His last assignment was Artillary as a Pfc. He received the Good Conduct Medal during his term. After two years active duty, he pulled four years of reserve duty until 27 June 1962.

Edwin Harland Rose was born 28 May 1959. He married Sheilah Sue Scarberry. Sheilah was born 1958 and died 05 October 1985 in Lexington, Kentucky after a long illness with bone marrow cancer. She and Eddie married in 1981. Sheilah had a son, Scott Douglas Scarberry by a previous relationship. Eddie and Sheilah had a daughter, Jessica Celeste Rose born 04 May 1980 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia. After Sheilah's death, her mother raised the children in Paw Paw, Kentucky.

Brenda Gale Rose was born 10 August 1959. She married twice. First to Donald Elliott about 1978 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia. Before divorcing in 1980, Brenda and Donald shared a son, Kevin Edward Elliott who was born 22 March 1979 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia.
Before Brenda married Kenneth James Kuhta on 01 June 1991 in Rick Creek, Giles Co., Virginia, she had a son, Christopher Joseph Elliott who was born 25 November 1985 in Richmond Co., Virginia. The identity of Chris' father is unknown at this time. Brenda and Ken share no natural children, however, Ken raised Kevin and Chris as his own sons. Brenda and Ken were divorced in 1997.

Debra Lynn Rose was born August 1962. Debbie gave birth to a daughter, Alicia Dawn Rose on 18 January 1976. The identity of Alicia's father is unknown at this time. In 1981, Debbie married Carl Steadman. Debbie and Carl share two children: Ernest Steadman born September 1981 and Pamela Steadman was born 1984.

Jerry Wayne Rose was born 24 February 1963 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia. He married Regina Diane White Brewer on 16 November 1981 in Rich Creek, Giles Co., Virginia in the First Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Sutphin.
Jerry adopted Gina's daughter by a previous marriage, Amy Michelle Brewer Rose in 1984 in Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia. Amy was born 14 September 1978 in Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.
Amy Michelle Rose married Brandon Lee Hudspeth on 14 September 1998 in Gaston County, North Carolina.
Jerry and Gina share a daughter, Jennifer LaRae Rose born 23 January 1983 in Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.

Alicia Rose gave birth to a son, Jonathan Blaine Rose6 on 03 March 1998 in Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia.
John A. Rose, Sr. is believed to have been born in Kentucky. John was married to Mary Harper who was also from Kentucky. John A. and Mary Harper Rose was listed as Thomas Wesley Rose's parents on his death certificate as information provided by Ella Mae Persinger Rose, his wife.
According to Thomas' son, Cecil "Boots" Rose, he remembers traveling to Welch, McDowell Co., West Virginia with Thomas to visit his grandfather's grave when he was seven years old.
According to Basil Bentley, Jr. he listed Thomas Wesley Rose's parents as John and Mary who may have had the following children: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rose who married Ed Carpenter from Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., Virginia; William "Bill" Rose, John A. Rose, Jr., George Rose, Flora Rose, and Thomas Wesley Rose.
There is a discrepancy regarding Thomas W. Rose's parents. According to his marriage certificate for Bessie M. Osburn in Lee Co., Va in 1901 his parents are listed as A.C. and Millie Rose.
There is also a question regarding Bessie's parents. Basil Bentley, Jr. listed Bessie's parents as Joe and Dorcus Collins Osburn. Her marriage certificate dated 1901 in Lee Co., Va lists her father as John Osburn.

There is some controversy regarding Ella's actual date of birth. Her head stone reads 1900. According to marriage records for Ella and Henry C. Meador found in Union, West Virginia, Ella's age in 1913 is recorded as 16 years of age: placing her year of birth as 1897.
This information contained on Thomas' death certificate dated 03 July 1943 in Monroe Co., West Virginia. His name listed as Wes Rose.

Information provided by Jim Holland lists John Rose married to Nancy Jane Harper. Children of John and Nancy listed are Elizabeth Rose md. Carpenter, Bill Rose, Asa M. Rose, George Rose, and John with no mention of Thomas.
