Ulysses Grant White Where Are You?
Ulysses Grant WHITE was born 12 Apr 1866 in Wyoming County, West Virginia. He was the son of Abraham
and Millie GARRISON WHITE. Grant, as he was called, had a sister Manervia Angie WHITE who was born 15 Nov 1856. She married Wiley TILLER and died in 1942.
Abraham and Millie gave Grant a piece of property in Wyoming County. Grant married Victoria SHREWSBURY who was the daughter of John and Elizabeth BAILEY SHREWSBURY. Victoria was born 27 Feb 1866 and died 27 May 1938. Grant and Victoria made their home on Osben Ridge in Wyoming County. Together they had five children:
Phillip Sheridan WHITE b 10 Mar 1884 and d 14 Sep 1975 was married to Alice STEVENSON.
Mary Angeline WHITE b 25 Apr 1886 and d 23 Feb 1963 was married to Marion SINK.
Wiley Johnson WHITE, Sr. b 14 Jan 1888 in Wyoming Co. died Jun 1933. He was married to Laura AKERS and Linda STEVENS GLADWELL.
James "Jim" WHITE b 19 Feb 1890 d 29 Nov 1971 and was married to Edna SHREWSBURY.
George Winton WHITE b 26 Nov 1892 and d 1968 was married to Martha MILLS.
Grant left Victoria when George was just a baby which would have been sometime around 1893. Town gossip and family rumor states that Grant perhaps left with Mary Jane MEADOWS and her four children. Rumor has it that these four children could have been Grant's since Mary Jane was not married. Folks during this time remember Grant buying shoes and clothes for Mary Jane's children but not his own children with Victoria.
No one knows for sure what ever happened to Grant. Some say he ended up in Kentucky; others say he went to Texas; while yet others claim that he stayed in the Wyoming County, WV area and died there.
