I'm seeking info on the parents or siblings of Meredith Layne, he was born 15 Nov 1805 in Surry Co., NC and died 6 Dec 1895 in Pike Co, KY He married Margaret Phillips on 14 Nov 1839 in Pike Co. KY. Meredith is full blooded Cherokee of North Carolina. It is said his mother is a Cherokee Princess. Family rumor also has it that Meredith may have been born Dobkins or Dobbins. He killed a man over some land and moved to Pike Co., KY and changed his name to Layne. He was a land surveyor, he owned 3000 acres in Joohns Creek and Paints Creek, he moved to Pike County,Ky when he was 34. Thank you.

I am looking for information on David SHORES born @1799 around Surry County, NC married in 1820 Surry County, NC Martha (Patsy) SISK, daughter of Jesse SISK and Pheriba HARVILLE. John SHORES was listed as bondsman from marriage. David and Martha moved to Alabama by 1826, then arrived in Wayne County, IN by 1830 census. They lived in Nettle Creek Twp. Randolph County, Indiana for 1840 and 1850 census. Children of David and Martha: Moses A. Shores born 1821 NC ,Elizabeth Shores born 1823 NC, Catherine Shores born 1826 AL, and Jesse A. Shores born 1828 AL. Any help with this family will be appreciated.

I'm trying to track down information on two related families both of whom spent time in Surry Co. NC. George and Lydia (DODSON?) SPRATLEN (with a variety of spellings: Spratlin, Sprattin/en, Spratling, etc.) were married in Pittsylvania County, VA. They lived there for a while and then moved to Stokes County, NC. In 1837, George recorded the sale of his farm and he and his children, James and Sarah (LYNCH) SPRATLEN, Richard and Martha (SPRATLEN) PELL, moved to Surry County where possibly George died after 1840. On the 1840 census he was listed as being between 70 & 80 years old. In 1844, the families have all moved to Missouri, so this represents a short span of years. Still, I would like to find a will, probate, grave site, or other information about either Spratlens or Pells or Dodsons.Thank you very much.

Rebeka Davis. She was born around 1810. I found her,I think, in the Census of 1830 in Wilkes Co. and also Onslow Co. Strange but from 1840-1860 she wasn't found ,and then she was in Onslow again in 1870. I did find a Rebecca and children in 1850 in Surry County. I hope someone knows something of this. I believe she and the children hid out those years, since they
were native Americans or rather half, if you get my chain of thought! Thank you if you can help me!

Robert Henderson Riggan was born Nov 1836 in Surry Co. NC , mar. Lucy Ann Hodges 2 Feb 1860, and died bef. 24 Jun 1926. I had heard he was buried in Riggans Cemetery. Do any of you know if that is in Surry Co. Well anyway, his son (my ggrandfather), Ulysses Grant Riggan, moved to Texas about 1910 and died in 1914 and was buried in Merkel, TX. I hope this information is helpful.
