Great site. Our greyhound is Shasta (track name Alonzo). We have had him 3 years & he is now 4 1/2 years old. Was especially glad to read the poem "Spirit of a Greyhound". Thanks!

Thank you for the information on Pannus,our youngest grey, Jamie was just diagnosed. She rubbed her eyes all the time & had a mucus like discharge in corners of her eyes. We just started her on Dexamethasone & hopefully we caught it early enough to save er sight.

When we adopted Artie who was only off the track 3 weeks and went to pick him up from foster care, we met Indy who had never raced. Needless to say, we came home with 2 greys. It has been wonderful!!! Our family wonders what we ever did with out the boys. Just watching Artie learn to be a 'real' dog, from one who was scared of his own shadow to a dog who now loves life, toys and Twinkies! Indy should have been named Goofy, as he is a fun loving clown. He plays dress up with our young daughters and as our 5 year says, he is better to play with than a Barbie! We are currently on the look out for a Blue to go with black(Artie) and black & white (Indy).

Thank you SO much, Sharon and Jack! AWESOME site!!! You saved my sanity and you lessened JJ's pain w/the suggestion for Ascription, today. JJ is still hurting, quite a bit, but the Ascription helped TREMENDOUSLY! He, FINALLY (after 22 1/2 hrs.) was able to walk outside and go the bathroom. God shows up all over the place, doesn't He? Who would have thought that I could run in to the two of you at Giant and that you could have touched our lives, simply by buying milk! I appreciate everything..... Like many parents of adopted greyhounds, we know ours are the best for us. We have three! Two of them are older (10 and 9 years) and one is still young (5 years). We just adopted our first one last year...

congratulations on a great site! Well written, nice graphics, easy to move around in. Great content too. I'd never heard of Pannus and their trouble with anaesthesia. Good to know. After a few laid back labs, I was glad to read about sensitive greyho nds. Our girl, Buffy, seems to take after her greyhound side in that. Also, more happily in her love, delight and ecstacy in running, chasing and playing fetch with anything.

Dabney, our greyhound, has Pannus. I got the link to your site from the Summer 2000 issue of Celebrating Greyhounds in the Pannus article. I try to get as much information as I can on different conditions that affect people and animals close to me. I f nd it helpful to read as much about the condition as possible in addition to what I learn from my doctors or vets. Reading about the experiences of other greyhounds with Pannus either reinforces our current treatment regimen for Dabney or alerts us to ot er possible alternatives. It can be a persistent condition and any thoughts of it damaging Dabney's (or any other grey's) vision is very scary. Sighthounds certainly love to SEE (especially those squirrels and bunnies)! Thanks for the information!

I have had Whippets for the last 30 years, showing,lure coursing, & raising 2 quality litters. I am about to lose my 13 year old and when she is gone I will be adopting my first grey. I will be retiring soon, myself, and give a grey a wonderful home. Lov d your Web Site.

Just read your poem it brought tears to my eyes.We lost bennie over 2years ago but it still seems like yesterday. We adopted molly who has brought so much love into our life and she has so much spirit.She rules the house but thats ok.She loves her papa an waits for him at the door every day and greets him.Molly is just like having a child you just don't have to give birth to her and she loves you no matter what. Sharon...How I loved your web site. I was the mom of a beautiful, gentle wonderful brindle named Alex. Because of a divorce, I had to leave my lovely gentle girl. How I miss her gentleness and loving ways. Because I live in an apartment, I cannot have dog. I miss her company more than you imagine. I am fortunate that her Dad travels quite a bit, and he allows me to stay with her and her brother, a Tonkinese cat named Bentley. She is just as excited to see me, as if I have only gone to the store and was only briefly gone from her. As I started to say, we are waiting to adopt a greyhound from Australia, as that country, as Hawaii, is rabies-free. This way we do not have to subject the dog to the four month quarantine that Hawaii requires. As the parents-to-be are trying to schedul in some vacation time in Australia also (!!), this plan is taking longer than we'd like! In the meantime, I surf greythound sites to "scritch the itch", as Sharon put it. :-)

I am trying to help place a GSD that has Pannus. I am rying to find out as much as I can about this befor placing this dog. Is the med. expensive? Will the dog be able to travel OK? She lives in AZ and I live in TX. Do you have any other advise for me? Thanks for all your help!! Candy

We adopted Margarita 3 years ago. We had 2 other smaller dogs for 15 years. After they were gone we talked about, but what was a determining factor was what someone said. The best way we could honor our two friends was to save another. So the rest is history. We will do this again.

I printed out the stories of your babies and took them home to share with my boys. I've done as much homework on the breed as I possibly can. Now to only find a rescue that will take the time to call me back...Ky. doesnt have a large selection. Thank you for sharing an important part of your life.

We have a five year old black male named Cadet. He is a wonderful addition to our family. We have three children and he is great with them. He loves to go for long walks and rides in the car.

Romeo is an exracer and the most hansome man in my life. He is spoiled has his own room and is a clown. He has been an excellent incentive for people considering adopting a greyhound. Resulted in 2 adoptions. He keeps my other dog Molly (a Westie) company during the day. Romeo and Molly "ette" get along fabulously. Even though she is the size of a rabbit. She is still the boss and he knows it. Hopefully you will see their pix in the 2001 greyhound calendar

Thanks for your beautiful website, and for helping promote adoption of our special friends. I work in the greyhound industry and we adopt everyone leaving our kennel. I would bring every one of them home if I could. Thanks for not branding the industry as negative - We love our hounds just as you do. It's like having 60 pets share our lives every day. We are their family, until wonderful folks like you come along. My Chico also has Pannus, which has responded well to steroid treatment. He also was extremely shy and it can literally take years to be trusting of everyone. Being associated with so many kennel dogs, I believe genitics play the major role in shyness. Us ally we can win them over in the kennel with love and patience. Especially love. Thanks again for sharing the stories of your special greys.
