A native of Michigan, Edwina J. Lewis was a student nurse more than sixty years ago and a child in Saginaw even earlier than that. Consequently, your webmaster was quite surprised, while touring the north country, to see this sign. It appears in a window of a shop across from the world famous Soo Locks which connect Lake Superior with the lower Great Lakes. After all these years, Edwina Lewis's favorite brand of ice cream is STILL being marketed!

Ms. Lewis is a prolific writer. An interesting excerpt from her book HOSPITAL, telling about the typhoid epidemic that struck RINGLING BROS. CIRCUS in 1934, may be found HERE

If you wish to do so, TURN TO THE NEXT PAGE where you may read about Ephraim Shay, the inventor of a small but powerful steam locomotive designed especially for use on temporary logging railroads.
