My parents read me Thomas stories as a child and now I'm reading to my children.One common question is "Why does my house have the chimney above the fire but Thomas's chimney is at the other end?" Answer:While you could have a steam engine with the chimney at the same end as the fire-almost all steam fire engines were built like that-the heat from the fire has some work to do first. So as it passes from the cab end to the chimney through metal pipe it will boil the water to make the steam to make Thomas go.Do e-mail me other questions. Try this in your garden. Try to fill Thomas's tank with a leaky pail. Use an empty juice carton as Thomas's tank, a disposible plastic cup with five holes in the bottom as a pail and a paddling pool as a river. I'm not going to try it today as it's 19'c here in Saskatchewan. |
