Love Quilt Project

One afternoon, I was watching an episode of Simply Quilts on HGTV (like I do everyday) and host, Alex Anderson, was talking with her guest, TV quilter Kaye Wood.  The subject was Kaye's Love Quilt project and featured her 6 hr quilt...using a Quilt-As-You-Go technique.  She sets up booths at large quilt shows and people can sit and sew these quilts for as long as they wish.  The quilts made go to large charitable organizations to help children.  So I jumped on the computer and ordered one of Kaye's 6 hr quilt bookets.

When it arrived in the mail, I made a couple of these quick quilts...amazed at how fast it is to make a crib sized quilt, I thought is would be a great way to help out my community.  We have some wonderful charitable organizations that help children in crisis here in Mason County.

So first of all, I teamed up with my friend Rae, and between the two of us we taught a Community Education class on how to make these quilts.  5 enthusiastic students and more quilts made for kids!

We are now meeting at our local library once a month to meet with people, continue to teach this technique, accept fabric donations, and hand out kits for people to make at home to bring back.    It has been a very rewarding experience so far.

Organizations to receive these quilts so far are:  West Shore Pregancy Care Center, Mason County Women's Shelter, At Risk programs at the local elementary schools.  Once we have more quilts made, we will be giving them to the many Fire Departments in Mason County and the Red Cross.
