Winnipeg is one of the sunniest spots in Canada even in the winter months. Winnipeg is the curling capital of the world and hosts the world's biggest bonspiel. The Manitoba Moose. a member of the International Hockey League, strap on their skates and play a good brand of hockey at the Winnipeg Arena. The suburb of St. Boniface plays host to the annual Festival Du Voyagers, a celebration of the early French settlers in Winnipeg and Manitoba. This is a fantastic event for tourists and locals to enjoy beautiful hand-carved ice sculptures, great food, international and national music, a beard-growing contest and a general appreciation of French culture.
Spring here is like most places. People are busy spring cleaning, plantng gardens and flowers, fixing up their yards and getting ready for summer.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes begin their baseball season at the end of May until early September offering sports fans great entertainment at their new park located at the Forks. The Winnipeg International Airshow is held the first weekend of June at the Winnipeg Airport. The Manitoba Marathon is run every Father's Day raising money for charities. The Red River Exhibition features a midway,musical entertainment, exhibits and informational booths, crafts and arts and a parade. It is held in late June at the Assiniboia Downs. July starts with Canada Day, a celebration of the birth of Canada as a nation. Festivities range from local picnics to all day activities at the Forks. A giant fireworks display at the Forks caps the celebrations. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers begin their football season playing at Winnipeg Stadium. From July to November, football fans can watch good, fast action as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play host to 7 different teams at the Winnipeg Stadium. The Winnipeg Folk Festival at Birds Hill Park features local, national and international muisicians from July 8th to 11th. The Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July showcases performers from around the world. From music to theatre, this festival has it all for young and old. The Taste of Manitoba in mid July in downtown Winnipeg is a 4 day food festival where many of Winnipeg's restaurants setup booths and sell samples of their specialities. In August, Folklorama, a celebration of the diverse cultures tthat make up the population of Winnipeg begins for 2 weeks. Pavillions offer music, food and cultural activities for the whole family. There are more festivals and events in Winnipeg and throughout the entire Province of Manitoba to numerous to mention but they are all interesting and friendly for tourists and locals to attend.
This is one of the nicest seasons as the leaves on the trees change colours and begin to fall to the ground. The Labour day weekend signals the beginning of the end of summer. Many cottage owners make that last trip to get their cottages ready for winter while lots of city dwellers head outdoors for one last weekend of sun.
