History
Oldest of the three, Rupert United church was built in 1882 as a Presbyterian church on land donated by James Nesbitt. It is situated on a two acre piece of land. The red brick building is 34x56 feet with a 20x22 feet session room at the rear. There is a seating capacity of 160. There is a large parking area and small garden. The foundation is of natural stone and cement steps and iron railing lead into the front of the sanctuary. The interior of the church and lobby are plastered with wood paneling, to the height of the pews. The original wood floor has been painted. Three rows of pews are seperated by two carpeted ailes that lead up to the choir and church parlour. In 1948 the ceiling was lowered by about six feet and tiled. The pews, pulpit and walls are original. Electricity was installed in 1948 but two of the original oil lamps were wired and are still used beside the pulpit. The church sits in a secluded, peaceful setting on the edge of town.
