Raney Page
A tribute to my step-father, Benton Raney, and his family.
J Benton Raney b. Jan 31 1918, d. Feb 14 1995
Graduated from Lemoore High School, 1937.
Dad was one of the first men to be drafted into the Marine Corp. during WWII. He fought on Tipan, and IwoJima. He had nightmares all of his life about the war. We could hear him yelling about mortor fire in his sleep.
He married my mother in 1946 and was my step-father from the time I was 3, and my brother Gerald was 5 yrs old. In 1948 they had another son, Russell Dean Raney. Dad had three children from a previous marriage, Stewart, Jerry, and Margie Ann.
Dad was raised on a ranch in Lemoore, and you know what they say, You can take the man out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the man. He loved to garden and always had the best vegetable garden in the world. He lived for his garden.  Even when he lived in Hacienda Heights, CA he took out the back lawn and planted garden.
Dad left the ranch in 1959 and went to work for Cal-Trans, which took him to Frazier Park, and then To Hacienda Heights where he worked at the Diamond Bar Yard. When he retired from Cal-Trans, mom and dad moved to Lebec, CA, where he died in 1995.
He was a good hearted man, and a good step-father.
