War of the Roses!!
Bob Taylor was the democrat.  Both brothers wore mustaches, and were bald.
Alf Taylor was a Republican. He was very serious while his brother was a joker. They campaigned together, fiddling on stage while the whole country waited to see what happened. This campaign took place in 1886, and was the most unusual campaign in Tennessee history. The brothers were quite close, and respected one another. Bob said they were roses from the same garden. Despite that remark, the Democrats adopted the white rose, and the republicans the red rose. So  They would all show up at the debates wearing the different colored roses. They debated each other 41 times. They came from a divided household. Nathaniel Green,  their father was a strong supporter of the Union Army, while their mother,  Emmaline, had sympathies with the south. So the boys had a lot to argue about while working on their fathers farm in Happy Valley, Tennessee.
