I SIT, I WATCH, I THINK ŠTOM WYOMING I sit here on a hill and look Out on the prairie below, and Think of how it was many years ago. First there were the dinosaurs, Then some sort of caveman, Followed by the American Indians, Then the myriad of settlers Swarming west, looking for a Place to rest and their particular Xanadau! Then I think of how Each and all were portrayed, Their stages of development And how they started the big Decline of most of the things we know. For way back when all things Were pristine and in such a natural State, for they were just as God Or whatever had designed them, Then left them alone for their Part as this old world began to grow. Now the dinosaurs did pollute, I want you to know, They knocked down trees, and Left bones strewn about, Whee! what they did to ecology! Then came the caveman bold And in an untold number of generations, Started the real degeneration of All this land untold. Gosh, they killed meat and Learned about fire, lived in caves And ate, and then they left a mess. Oh yeah can't you see all the bones, Ashes and feces they left behind. Wow how could so few start such a mess? But then across the plains and prairies Bold rode the red men and oh gosh, They even buried their dead By putting them on altars and letting the sun And wind whisk their sacred Ancestors away. But from what we can find and What we have dug up, It all shows, heck ecology was their middle Name, even if they had to go. Then came our late forefathers, Really not so bold, They clomped, they dumped And made a mess, All with just miles to go. They gathered, they built, They congregated, then They just went, and left it! All in a heap and moved Over the hill, just to have somewhere Else to go. Oh but let us not forget All the modern miracles that were Found, and how it helped out And made us grow. But then oh man, they caused Pollution and damaged the Environment, but now we Cuss and scream at them The ones all dead and gone So now what do we do? We halt a lot of So called progress, In order to save the spotted owl, The black tailed prairie dog, the Prebble jumping mouse and The most famous of all The snail darter, which started It all, all in the name of progress.
