A GOLDEN RETRIEVER
IS THIS THE DOG FOR YOU?
The Golden Retriever is a friendly, loving, intelligent, cheerful, gentle and energetic dog.

It is an extremely popular breed.

The Golden Retriever should be a strong, graceful and muscular dog with a thick water-repellant coat ranging in colour from cream to deep golden.
(This coat sheds quite significantly usually about twice a year)

Males should be 22-24 inches in height and weight 32-37 kg.
Females are slightly smaller.

Golden Retrievers can be expected to live for 10-13 years.  Some live longer.

Golden Retriever breed is subject to hip and elbow displaysia, eye problems and occasionally heart disease.  Purchasers should ensure breeders undertake testing of breeding stock for these hereditary problems and plan breeding in accordance with the best outcomes for healthy puppies.

Golden Retrievers are active dogs and they need plenty of exercise.  A bored Golden Retriever will dig, bark, tear clothes off the line and try to escape from your yard.

Golden Retrievers can be very energetic in their happiness and need to be trained (kindly and firmly) in good manners from a very early age.

Obedience classes are recommended for socialisation and to learn at least the basics of "sit," "heel," and "wait."

A well behaved, obedient and happy Golden Retriever is a wonderful companion.
Making your Golden Retriever that way is up to you!
