Background
Solomon Armstrong,
is a 1972 graduate of Lake
Providence Senior High School, in Lake Providence, LA. He played
1st Trumpet in the high school band, and enjoyed playing baseball.
Solomon attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He began
as a music major, and was a member of the "Marching Juke Box," but later
changed his major to Secondary Art Education, in which he received his
Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977.
After teaching one year in Morehouse Parish, Solomon returned home to teach
Art I, and later certified in Social Studies. He taught Louisiana
Studies, Intermediate Band, and is now teaching Civics and World Geography at his alma mater. Currently, Armstrong is head baseball coach at Lake Providence Senior High School, Chairman of the Housing Authority for the Town of Lake Providence, a member of the Louisiana Association of Educators, National Educaton Association, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2001, Solomon was selected by the Lake Providence High School faculty and East Carroll Parish School Board as High School Teacher of the Year. In 2002, he was also voted as District 2-AA Baseball Coach of the Year. And again in 2004, this educator was selected by the faculty as Lake Providence High School Teacher of the Year.

Solomon is a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where
Bishop C. Hamilton Murray is the Pastor. He serves as Minister of Music for the Youth Choir. Solomon has enjoyed playing synthesizers
a few years for a local gospel choir, the Voices of Tabernacle Choir, and occasionally for the Sensational Sixes gospel group. Armstrong has played for the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Mer Rouge, LA., the Mt. Pleasant #2 Missionary Baptist Church of Terry, LA., and Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Tallulah, LA. This past December, he began full service ministry at the Holly Grove Baptist Church, Eudora, Arkansas, Rev. Macklen Bunn, Pastor. "God has answered by prayer." Although he had to say goodbye to some of the churches he had played for and friends he had made over many years, Mt. Zion Youth and Holly Grove are now his priorities.
