Sister Ann Agnes Donohue

1915-1972


Dolores Mary Donohue was born to John and Ann (Barry) Donohue in Detroit on January 28, 1915. Dolores had three brothers in her family.

She attended Holy Redeemer and St. Cecilia Grade Schools and St. Cecilia High School. On the feast of Our Lady, September 8, 1933 She entered St. Mary's Postulate. She recieved the habit and the name Sister Ann Agnes on August 15, 1934. She, however, returned to her baptismal name and was Sister Dolores Donohue. She made her first vows on August 15, 1936 and her final vows on August 15, 1939. In 1948 she recieved her B.A. degree from Marygrove College and in August 1964 she recieved her M.A. degree for the University of Detroit, in Business Education.

Sister Dolores taught grade school for several years. From 1935-1936 she was at St. Mary, Monroe; from 1936-1937 at St. Agnes, from 1937-1942 at Gesu; from 1942-1945 at Christ the King; from 1945-1948 at Blessed Sacrament; from 1949-1950 at St. John, Jackson. In 1950 she went to St. Mary, Mt. Morris where she stayed until 1952. From 1952-1953 she was at St. Agnes and form 1953-1954 she was at St. Michael, Flint. From January 1954 until August 1955 Sister Dolores worked in the Business Office in Monroe. In 1954 she went to St. Francis de Sales High School where she taught Business courses until 1959. From 1959-1967 she taught Business, English and Religion at Our Lady of Lourdes, River Rouge. From 1967-1970 she was missioned and St. Mary, Wayne.

In 1970 Sister Dolores when to Inaculata High School where she taught Business courses and was the assistant treasurer. From 1971-1973 she was the Busness Manager at Immaculata High School.

Sister Dolores endeared herself to her students and co-workers by her gracious calm and even disposition. Her inner joy and happiness overflowed into a pleasant smile and often hearty laugh.

Those who had the privilege of libving with Sister Dolores remember her for her efficiency and her adaptability; also her generosity and kindness to the senior sisters, especially her dear aunt, Sister Agnita Donohue.

While on Mission at Immaculata Sester Dolores was suddenly stricken. Medical attention was sought but in spite of excellent doctors, her condition was beyond medical resources.

After a brief illness of three weeks, Sister Dolores died on December 29, 1972 after 29 years of dedicated service in the religious live.
