We have a saying, "Nobody's perfect." The Bible fully agrees.
Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
The word sin originally comes from the Greek word "miss the mark." If you are not perfectly on target in everything you do, then you have misssed the mark, and you have sinned.
That might not seem so bad to you, but it separates you from God, who is perfect and holy. God considers sin far more serious than people consider sin, because God knows all of the harm and grief that sin brings.
Isaiah 59:2 says that our sin separates you from God. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages [payment] of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." You must admit that you are a sinner in need of the gift of forgiveness and eternal life.
2. Realize that the gift is in Jesus.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6). Jesus is the only way to receive the gift of salvation. He said so himself.
Why? Because only Jesus paid the price for your sin.
Romans 5:8 says, "God showed us how much he loved us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
