The Commonwealth of Kentucky is one of the most beautiful states in the USA. Kentucky was founded in 1792. It is located in the south central US, west of the Appalachian Mountains, and contains approxamately 37,700 square miles of space, ranking it 37th in size among our 50 states. It may not be huge, but Kentucky boasts some awesome natural resourses, including being the third highest producer of coal in this country! Also, only the HUGE state of Alaska has more miles of running water than we do! Over half of our state is filled with forest, containing many types of trees, including:white oak, white ash, red oak, sugar maple, walnut, yellow poplar, beech, and hickory. This is why Kentucky also rates third in the country at hardwood producing.
Our state Capital is Frankfort, and the largest city is Louisville, with over 270,000 persons calling it home!
Some places of interest in Kentucky are:Kentucky Lake, Churchill Downs, Mammoth Cave, Daniel Boone National Forest,Land Between The Lakes,Kentucky Horse Park, and in Louisville, Kentucky kingdom, an amusement park that has just been bought out by Six Flags!
