Kara was born just before Christmas 1988, Australia's Bicentennial year. She is the daughter of two dairy cattle working dogs. Her mum, Jess was a red kelpie, and her dad, Snip was a blue cattle dog crossed with a border collie. Snip was retired from working and he was a cranky old dog.
I lived on the dairy farm where Kara was born, and watched her grow from day one. Of the eight pups born, only two were kept. Kara for me, and Ned as a the next generation worker.
When she was about eight months old, she ran into the path of the local postal van. Her eye had to be surgically removed. From that day to this, she has been a thoroughly spoiled dog.
Early training for Kara was a difficult job. Kelpie's are very boisterous and energetic dogs.
Kara had a special kennel built for her, and she never once entered it. But she loved to lie on top of it.Maybe she is related to Snoopy eh? These are the only pictures of Kara before she lost her eye.
Kara today. A happy, healthy, loveable, and totally adorable dog. :-)
