Mary DAY, she was born ca. 1740, probably in England, and he married 2.: Rhoda Prater on July 23, 1792. They were the first settlers on Bluestone river in 1770. (William Day married Elizabeth Waggoner in 1781 - Montgomery Co., Daniel and George Waggoner owned 189 a. and 280 a. on little Sinking Spring in 1782 (Mongomery Co. Surveys), and John Day and Henry Harless bought land on Back Cr. in 1794. ) Thomas Copley was listed as a Revolutionary soldier serving in Cpt. Daniel Smith's Co. of Fincastle Soldiers, along with Parker Adkins, Mordock and Henley McKenzie, etc. (p. 1423, Annals of SW VA). He was a participant of the Battle of Point Pleasant, in Cpt. John Lucas' Company on May 30, 1774. He was also listed in Cpt. John Lucas list of tithables. However, an inquiry at the National Archives for a Revolutionary War Record was unsuccessful, as Thomas probably never applied for a pension. Thomas Copley was also listed as a customer of McCorkle's store in New Dublin between 1774 and the start of the Revolution. Ingle's Tavern and McCorkle's store were meeting places, New Dublin is now under Claytor Lake. Ingle's Ferry was the scene of great activity as frontiersmen came in from many places on their way to join Col. Andrew Lewis at Camp Union, Lewisburg, WVA., preparatory for the Ohio expedition against the Shawnees in 1774. (Col. Andrew Lewis lived at Richfield, Salem, VA. Ingle's Ferry is located 1.4 m. east of Radford, in 1760 it was the site of the first rendevouz of Col. Byrd's expedition agianst the Cherokees. There Indians returning to New River in 1763 were attacked by Wm. Ingles and party of settlers. ) McCorkle's store did a rushing business. Officers and men flocked into the store, buying supplies and taking chances on guns and other merchandise being raffled. Rum, drawn from huge oaken casks, was dispensed in great quantity. Apparently the entire Fincastle Battalion assembled in this area before marching to Camp Union. Among those coming from afar were companies commanded by Cpt. James Harrod, founder of the first settlement in Kentucky and Cpt. Evan Shelby from the edge of Tennessee. In 1770, he was listed as living on the Bluestone River. It seems that Thomas Copley lived on the New River at least since 1772, he surveyed 160 a. on the west side of the New River were surveyed. His daughter Achsah was born on 2 July 1815, and married on 11 April 1836 Abraham Sargent. She died 26 September 1885 in Spanish Fork, Utah. She had married Charles Y. Packette, he came to the US about 1836 from Canada. He joined the US military and served at Ft. Duchesne. He married Achsah, a widow, ca. 1845 or 1846. He came to Utah in the Fall of 1850 with Andrew Jackson Stewart's Co. Stewart settled in Springfield. Charles Packett was a cooper by trade, and did much in the way of construction work. He assisted in building grist mills of Northern Utah. Two children were born at Little Pigeon: Martha Ann on 25 January 1850 and Mary Ellen on March 10, 1848. Twins Emiline and Emily were born 14 Dec. 1852 on the corner of 3rd S. W. in Provo. July was born 24 Dec. 1854 at Lehi, and Joseph was born 29 April 1857 at Provo. Achsah was the daughter of James Copley and Celia Herron, born on 2 July 1815 in Giles Co., Virginia and in early life moved to Tennessee where she married a widower by the name of Sargent. He left two children, Sarah and Jane. She then married a school teacher, name unknown. She joined the Mormon church, her second husband disappeared, he returned to claim the property left by his wife Achsah. She married Charles Paquette about 1845 or 1846 near or at Nauvoo.
