In the old testament it is written “That he may learn to fear the Lord his God.” In our society of political correctness, when disciplining a child is child abuse, it might seem far fetched for anyone to think we would teach the Fear of the Lord our God.
We shall see in the Word how the Lord not only expects us to know about the Fear of the Lord but how we can have the Fear of the Lord.
For most of us we look at the word Fear and see it’s typical meaning, to be afraid of. Now for us, we know it is that, but also, a lot more. For our God is an awesome God, for it is written in:
(Jer 5:22 KJV) “ Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?”
Here, God gives a simple example of the sea being completely under His control, to illustrate His power. He wants us to tremble, He wants us to fully understand how mighty He is. Notice in the following verse that when we have the fear of the Lord, we also get wisdom.
(Job 28:28 KJV) “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
When I read the following verse about the eye of the Lord being upon us, I get a feeling of comfort. Our Father is watching out for us, and not only that, He sustains us.
(Psa 33:18-19 KJV) “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.”
Do you know if the eye of the Lord is upon you?
Remember our God gives good gifts to His children.
Don’t be one that fits the scripture
(Jer 5:23-24V)”But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”
Don’t be counted with the ones who have sinned because all good things will not come to them. Understand it is not to late to pray that the Lord will give you His Spirit of the Fear of the Lord.
(Psa 34:9-11 KJV) “O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.”
When the Lord takes us through all our pruning and shaping to become the vessels He wants and needs, do you not see that He is also teaching us the Fear of the Lord.
Do you have the Fear of the Lord?
(Psa 34:7 KJV) The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
A lady saw a young man hitchhiking and stopped to give him a ride. He jumped in and suddenly caught his breath. He realized that she was the lady that a group of friends and him were going to rob due to her car breaking down in their neighborhood. She turned and looked at him and said, “You were one of those boys?” He answered , “Yes.” “What made you change your minds?” “Who are you kidding, when those big guys showed up we split.” “What big guys?” she asked. “That big group of guys, they seemed to come from out of no where.”
Remember the time when you wondered if the circumstance you came through was something done by an angel of the Lord? Or why you went home a different route, and then heard of the horrendous accident. Were these just coincidences or the protecting hand of our Lord Jesus Christ upon you, because you have the Fear of the Lord? You decide.
(Isa 11:1-2 KJV) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;"
Jesus is the stem of Jesse, and we are told to be like Christ. And our Father promises us that we shall not want any good thing if we fear the Lord. Our souls will be delivered from death, and He will keep us alive in famine. With the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord comes wisdom and understanding, and because there is no want to them that fear, we are also protected by His angels.
Heavenly Father, You have sent Your son Jesus so that we might be free. We praise You and give You glory Lord, for we are not deserving of any of Your gifts. Lord, if it is Your will, we ask that You give to each of us the spirit of the Fear of the Lord, that we may serve You more. Humble us Lord, and break us Lord, so that You might reshape our lives to be a pleasing fragrance unto you. Thank you Lord Jesus.
THEN THOSE WHO FEARED THE LORD SPOKE TO ONE ANOTHER AND THE LORD
GAVE ATTENTION AND HEARD IT, AND A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE WAS WRITTEN
BEFORE HIM FOR THOSE WHO FEAR THE LORD AND WHO ESTEEM HIS NAME.
