Once a month, on the weekend closest to the new moon,
the Crossroads Astronomy Club and other interested
stargazers are invited to K.B. and Janet Hallmark's
Loblolly Ranch for a starparty. Club members enjoy bringing telescopes and sharing glimpses of the wonders of the sky.

Yourself and a love of the night sky

Friends & family who also love the night sky, mosquito repellant, long-sleeved shirt or light jacket, lawn chair, binoculars or scope if you have them, red-lensed flashlight (red paper, cloth, cellophane or even a red balloon over a regular flashlight will work and save our night-vision).

 Plan your stargazing with Mark Casazza's Tonight's Sky. Enter the latitude and longitude of your observing location, then filter the types of celestial objects you are interested in viewing, and specify the minimum magnitude you'll be able to see. If you are observing at Loblolly Ranch, enter 28.9 degrees latitude and -97.9 degrees longitude. The largest scopes usually used at Loblolly are "Big Red," a 13.1 inch Dobsonian, and the "Water Heater," a 16 inch Dob. Either will provide views down to 10.5 magnitude.
