Cravin.html

Names with this family so far are
Cravens, Durant, Sears and Standford.

This is the information that I have as of May 20, 2004.
I have found the family listed under three different spellings, Cravens, Craven and Cravin.
Nora Cravens is found in the marriage records Janurary 23, 1909 applying for a marriage licenese to Gibby Durant Choctaw 18 yrs old. Nora is white and 18 years old. They are both from Garvin. The marriage certific states that were married on Janurary 26, 1909

Sometime after Janurary 26, 1909 Gibby disapears, there is an interview from a woman who said that she was at a dance near Wheelock and a man named Gibby Durant is shot just before she is to swing with him. The interviewer says that she believes they were square dancing. Nora is found in the 1910 census living with her brothers-in-law in Garvin.

Nora had a son by Gibby named Luther Calvin Durant, she later marries Frank M. Sears. Frank is found on Dec. 13, 1913 applying for guardianship of Luther. I have not been able to find any other information on Luther. He is my husbands half uncle.

Nora applies for guardianship of two of her half brothers, as there father who I believe to be W.C. Cravens died in 1907, and their mother passes in 1910. The last date I have of her applying for guardianship is November 16, 1918. In Janurary 9, 1919 a G.R. Murrin is applying for guardianship because Nora is no longer living, so I know she died between these dates.

Nora's name was spelled differntly on thses papers somtimes on the same papers, Norah or Nora Cravens and Craven.

Nora's half brothers were Boyd, Floyd and Cal. On the 1910 McCurtain County census Idabel Ok. they were listed as Floyd and Boyd age seven (7) and Cal age three (3) and listed as Cravens. They lived with their Grandmother Mary E. Pressley age 63. I do not know if Mary is the maternal or paternal Grandmother.

I have found all three of the boys listed in Social Security, Floyd and Boyd have the same date of birth, but different years, and their name is now spelled Cravin.
