Play Ball!

I made this small wallhanging for my quilt guild's bi-annual quilt show challenge. The rules were simple; use all three of the challenge fabrics, use at least 1 block from the book The Seasons Sewn: A Year in Patchwork by Ann Whitford Paul and make it no larger than 30 by 30 (120" in total).

I chose the block called baseball and decided to create a piece that was shaped like the infield portion of a baseball field. The CQ portion has representations of all 30 major league teams. I used team logos as well as mascots and anything that might suggest the team. I am almost ashamed of the amount of time I spent visiting each team's official site to do research; and I won't even mention the time I spent looking for baseball related cracker jack charms on Ebay - unsuccessfully I might add. I also had great fun shopping for baseball charms and buttons.

Special thanks to Peg of Peg's Pretty Pieces for having the old time baseball player silks and to my USP Linda for sending me some neat charms. Extra special thanks go to Jack, my baseball fan co-worker, for putting up with my questions and little known baseball facts. I know he wanted to run away when my conversations started with "Did you know that......."

See how many teams you can name and thanks for looking.
