The Stone
Sticks and stones may break one's bones,
But words can break one's heart.
Words can tear a body limb from limb
And rip the soul apart.
Physical damages tend to pass;
Bruises heal and fractures mend.
But a broken spirit last forever
With no peace of mind at end.
Unkind words tend to dig and claw
And build body maps of their own.
So keep the unkind words to yourself
Instead, throw at me, a stone.
I will catch that flinging stone
And the Solid Rock I'll hold.
I will take the lessons from it
And treasure them as gold.
Perhaps then, when anger within me arouses And hurtful thoughts, provoken......
I will hold the Stone within my heart...
And my thoughts will be unspoken.
